Offline | Electric Superchargers. I am normally very sceptical of these sort of gimmick items, but i want to know what some of you guys think? Since the last time I stumbled across these, they seem to of come along a bit. Take a look at these, do you think they would provide any gain, or are a useless gimmick? Offline | They are all gimmicks, they may add something somewhere but they would really do mostly nothing except make noise. My MSC in automotive project was on electric superchargers and it can be done, but you are looking at a lot more equipment and control boards, I had to use another battery and some large caps to supply the power when required. total cost would be about £600 manufacturing and materials. I made one which had a belt sensor and worked like a supercharger and the other setting was with a sensor in the exhaust calculating the speed and pressure, this one worked like a turbo. There was a lot of work that went in to it. I used an old turbo T25 and manufactured a bracket that fitted to the motor, this way I knew I could boost if the speed was correct, the next stage was working the power draw and ways to get around the surge, lastly I made a pcb which could change the boost, and also the sensor to make it act like a turbo or supercharger. there was a lot of work went into it. If you dont need a re-map think about how much performance its not supplying. Nice idea but the most will do nothing except make someone money. |

| MINI2 Master | in principle they may well work. However you wanna see what i had running on my old Thunder tiger EB-4 1/8th scale radio controled car. Yup thats right a little baby superchrger. Ran off small belt blew stright into carb and whined like a little baby. actually made a huge difference, would hit nealry 90mph, all was well until the receiver packed up and the failsafe did'nt kick in, it careered into a wall smashing the manifold and i could'nt be asked to buy a new one. |

| The Power Cube | MUAH! well funny ! ![]() Which reminds me, i have a petrol 1/8 sat in the cellar (used to race them!) - was recently getting into helicopters though - perhaps something to bolt the 4Kam too later also :-))) As for having an electric Scharger under the bonnet, the idea of a hybrid engine makes me shiver - no thanks, i'll stick with the 50bhp robbing beauty i have already thanks ![]() Cheers, K. ![]() Too many mods to list, PM me if the cat needs killing... |

Offline | totally missed that post! Atleast the increased exhaust pressure will increase fuel pressure too ![]() What class did you race? I useto race 1/10th Scale IC Touring Cars both club and national The good old days........ Now electric with brushless motors seems to be the in thing. |

| The Power Cube | i raced club only, petrol and electric. electric were my fav actually, as they were nice a clean I also loved all the trick motors you could buy... trying to recall the techno speak from back then, there were differet winds for punch power, and enduro right? 40 something? can't remeber too clear now. nearly 15 years ago !!!!I had the Schumacher Cougar (used to be the Top Cat), and then a Schumacher Nitro, which i just remember were actually 1/10th not 1/8th Doh ! Ah... childhood was a wonderful age ! (no real life worries like now !!!!!!!) ![]() but then again, no GTT270 either ![]() A famous musician told me this week that reminiscing on the past is ok, looking back etc. so long as you don't stare !!! excellent i thought!Cheers, K. ![]() Too many mods to list, PM me if the cat needs killing... |

Offline | Yep loads of different options available on motors. I still have my electric car at home and even got it out for a run around the other day. Little 4 wheel drive Losi XXX-S, carbon chasis and struts(very much lightened with a dremel too ). I still have my race model stock series motor which has to be 19 turns but this the most torquey motor I could find. Not as fast as the old old days though. I useto race a Pro Ten club with a 12 x Quad motor and the thing didnt weight anything! Mental car! World Record car version reached 128.9mph Mine was probably under half that but seriously fast even compared to my petrol car.Actually thinking about it all I really miss national racing but it seriously was a money pit! Engine at the edge only lasting upto 3 meets and then new bearings, pistons and liners. Tyres lasting upto one meet in summer and god for bid if you have a crash flat out! Did that once on the Southampton straight red line in 2nd gear and hit someone in the side followed by a pole! Massive repair bill and even a totally bent the chassis. Now what happens if you try running a MINI on 25% Nitro Race fuel? Answers on a post card! ![]() |

Offline | There are properly developed and engineered electric supecharger kits for a number of smaller cars like the Peugeot 107 etc. but thats a far cry from some of that eBay "Universal fit" tat! ![]() Would be pointless on a bigger engined car really but on the little 998cc triple it can get useful gains in power, from 68 standard up to 95 or so. |
