Arrow not the brand exhaust but the size

i am interested in the Alta or borla exhaust and i saw that there was a 2.5 inch and a 3 inch offered. does the cooper S ( R53 ) actually need a 3" when not using the twurbo kit? i imagine the right exhaust for a cooper s with a few mods is a 2.5 inch but thats why im asking. im not sure. does the cooper S need backpressure? i dont think it would due to the forced induction but im no expert. If the choice exhast is the 3" then why even offer the 2.5 and vice versa. thanks alot
