I also saw bp ultimate producing better figures than tesco 99 in an old evo magazinge issue.
They used it on a stock mk5 gti.
They then used it on a new porsche turbo that had been remapped and again bp ultimate came up with better results.

I would stick with V-power! The formula they use at the pumps is 99% the same as used in the Ferrari F1 car. However it would be intresting to use BP Ultimate 102 unleaded in a cooper s then remap it. Problem is the £2.54 per litre price tag when I last saw it at the pumps.

Its Gotta be cheaper to buy v-power and add a bottle of NOS octane bosster for that initial rush? over £2 per litre is a real rip off!

Yeah a big Ouch for Shell...... below both nearly everywhere.

Looked to me like 99 beat BP 102 in quite a few areas except at the redline where 102 took it back. 99 Certainly did well in the torque curve.

Hmmm interesting stuff....

P.s. Good Quote as the differences are marginal after all :

The Tesco 99 fuel again outperformed V Power in all the tests but the differences between the two fuels were marginal and we doubt most people would tell the difference in their cars on a day to day basis. However the Tesco fuel was the most consistent.

The BP 102 fuel showed the best gains in terms of ‘feel’ and performed better on the dyno and on initial fill up, when the fuel was fresh the power gains were noticeable even above the Tesco 99 fuel. However the gains seemed to dramatically diminish over time or with increases in engine bay temperature a feature which we are continuing to test.

Bottom line? Use the Tesco 99 fuel where you can find it, it offers the best, most consistent performance of the fuels available and it’s cheaper than V Power. If you can’t find a Tescos that sells it then go for Shell’s V Power. If you’re feeling really flush, have a point to prove on a rolling road day (days where car enthusiasts compare their cars power on a dyno) or want to extract the maximum potential out of the car on a track day then the BP 102 fuel is worth a go, just bear in mind that £150 a tank would pay for a good proportion of tyres or some decent driver training.

Sorry, forgot to mention that the tests carried out at Field Motorsports were with remapped ecu's. The ignition advance was adjusted accordingly for each type of fuel. From my understanding Thoney Motorsport did not remap the ecu. Instead just monitored what happens to the car with the different fuels. Be nice if they re-done tests again with remapped ecu for all fuels on their M3 CSL and then compared against the baseline of the standard maps.

BMW's use complex computer algorithms in their engine control systems to control spark timing using one or more knock sensors. This enables better performance on higher-octane fuel which will show through in the dyno runs.

I use Tesco Super Unleaded 99 in my car now, i tends to feel more powerfull over ordinary unleaded.
Isnt it right the minis ecu will adapt after a few tankfulls of the higher octane fuel, then run better??

Just got back from thrashing the s3 about. I had it for 4 hours. The car is absolutely amazing, it pulls through the gears like a steam train, the handling is very very good. I had it on a big roundabout today at lets just say above average speeds and the car felt like it wanted more, and more it just kept gripping and gripping
Clutch and gearbox are extremely light, excellent driving position, it felt on par with my mini in terms of accelleration but after 60 it really picked up. Also the brakes were very impressive, it stopped better than mine with the porsche brakes
I think this is the car for me.
My only problem is which colour?
Sprint blue or white?
Cant get the car until my 21st which is in august which is a while to wait

i use V-Power 99 RON, and top this up to 103/104 RON with Aldons Octane Booster on the track (35:1). I've used Tesco 99 RON on occassion.
.
This suits my needs fine. I tend not to 'rag it' on the road - yeah, right !!

Cheers,
K.

Nice 60ft, is that the slowest ever recorded in the history of a Mini

Slicks 11.77@115.92mph Street tyres 12.162 @ 119.02

Performance Box Test

V-Power - Best Results

Tank Level: Brimmed then showing 5 miles used at start of runs
Ambient Temp: 6C
Weather: Dry
Surface Condition: Dry
Inlet Temp: 17C
Water Temp: 90C

0-100 Results - 3 Runs, 2k RPM Launch, TC Off

0-30: 3.4 secs
0-60: 7.4 secs
0-100: 16.3 secs

2nd Gear 30-70 Results - 3 Runs, 20mph Start, TC Off

30-70: 3.1 secs
50-70: 2.8 secs

3rd Gear 30-70 Results - 3 Runs, 20mph Start, TC Off

30-70: 7.5 secs

Qtr Mile Results - 3 Runs, TC Off

60ft: 2.8 secs
Qtr Mile ET: 15.9 secs
Qtr Mile MPH: 97.2 mph

I made sure these tests conditions were as close to the last tests as possible and it was interesting to note the times were slower using V-Power. However, the fuel consumption whilst running 3 tanks of V-Power was so much better than the Tesco 99. In fact it's scary how many extra miles per tank you get.

Although the difference in times between V-Power and Tesco 99 are marginal I still think it is possible to tell through the butt dyno that Tesco 99 is quicker. V-Power seems to make the car run smoother overall whereas on Tesco 99 it can, especially when the car is cold, feel like its running a bit rough, quick, but rough... could that be the extra bio-ethanol, the higher final boiling point... who knows, all I know is for smoothness buy V-Power for quickness buy Tesco 99.

I use Tesco 99 as a rule having had a bad experience on VPOWER. ( now more than ever convinced that the fuel labled as VPower , wasn't ).

I had to fill on BP Ultimate and was pleasently surprised how good the car felt. Nothing scientific here, just feeling based opinion.
