Air Filter / Induction Kit???

Hi guys and girlies,

wanna start my modding with a new air filter to tie in with other mods later on.

what is best option in most peoples estimations??

Panel filters seem to be popular over induction kits due to heat soak being a real problem with the air filter being so close to the block! what do people prefer out of these alta, piper or K&N.

OR...

Is it really worth the the extra money and effort of installing the induction kit and ensure there is enuf cold air and a heat sheild in place! again if so what do people prefer out of these??

I have a 03 cooper and wanna really know is it gonna benefit me going for the induction kit or am i better off just going for the upgraded panel filter??

Thanks in advance guys (and girlies)

I would recommend the Alta panel filter for the Cooper. I think it improved throttle response. I had one fitted to my 04 Cooper before having the JCW sound kit fitted.

The John Cooper Works Sound Kits is available for 1st Gen MINI Coopers, consists of a new airbox/filter, JCW exhaust system, and a light ECU remap...

Makes the Cooper sound lovely, and gives your MINI around 3bhp more.

Available from all good MINI dealers

Sound kit is the MINI approved tuning kit for the First Gen Cooper. Consists of the kit shown in the link below. Major advantage is it retains MINI warranty. Nice if you like the JCW heritage.

MINI - John Cooper Works* - MINI Cooper Sound Kit*

Doesn't add much in the way of bhp, about 5bhp, but the sound from the exhaust and filter is great. Have had it on my 03 Cooper and current 56 Cooper. Look to be paying about 600-650 for the kit. But to be honest unless you want the JCW branding and heritage you would probably be better off going after market for your 03 Cooper, as it will be out of warranty.

I currently run a soundkit with the JC Motorsport cone filter replacing the SK airbox. Looking at building a heat shield next. To be honest think the car performed better with the SK airbox and panel filter so may go back to that. Some testing needed I think

Just had a look at my cars engine bay and looking at the standard induction hose to the filter it isn't that great! problem is there does'nt seem to be much room there for a second ducting hose for an induction kit which i think it would need, so i think it will be a panel filter and rely on exhaust and bluefin to increase the horses!

might see if i can get some better ducting to the filter though! do samco make anything a bit smoother ie from atmosphere to filter then filter to TB??

Lohen do replacement hoses for the Cooper. They're a site sponsor and offer a discount.

aml has started a thread on the subject of replacing his feed.

http://www.mini2.com/forum/engine-dr...e-updated.html

Jacked up started a thread yesterday about the fact he's fitted a Cooper S cold air intake to his ONE, but as yet I haven't seen any pics or details. Am interested in this as he was running the same set up as me, and he says this new one is an improvement.

Hi mate I've just sold my ONE and took my pipercross viper off so it's for sale if you're interested! I live in Brentwood as well so could drop it off for you. Its pretty much the best induction kit u can get for a ONE/COOPER as it is made of carbon fibre so doesn't suffer from heatsoak. PM me if interested..

I have got an ALTA panel filter and a Playmini exhaust and they work very well together! Dont know if much more BHP but the engine is much more responsive and free reving. I would save your money and get a panel filter rather than induction kit as probably give similar results.

Think it would be the alta panel filter! just spoke to a very helpful guy at lohen and they really know there stuf! (as expected!)

For what i want he recommended a panel filter over induction kit and i think the alta to me seems the best!

I personally really don't like the standard panel set up - do a search for flooded blown engines and you will see why.

That's the reason the first mod I ever did was to put an induction kit on. If you go through fords or floods at any speed at all the original set up directs water straight into your engine and bang.

Never had any problems with my induction (K&N) and it makes a lovely noise too.

pipercross viper is what have and would recomend!

reasons? Cold air feed, thus no hot engine air.
Nice sound, not too loud.
looks quiet nice aswell in engine bay!
