crank pulley

Can someone confirm that i'm understanding this correctly. I currently have a stock 210 cooper s which as part of the JCW mod has a 11% reduction on the supercharger. I'm going to fit a lightend crank pulley & i was thinking of the GTT one that is +4%. This will give me a total of 15% increase on the supercharger running speed which as i understand it is the max recommended increase unless i fit a larger intercooler to reduce the inlet temp..

I thought biggest one GTT does is +3%? Might be wrong though.

Worth double checking if its +4% on the crank or equal to +4% on the SC pulley. Makes quite some difference!

The GTT website doesnt list the sizes other than +4MM on the crank from what I remember.

4% is probably a little high. I believe GTT crank biggest off the shelf size is 3% increase over stock. On a JCW/GP this is OK, but I'd suggest a change of intercooler as my car on a 15% used to get red hot. The GP IC is pretty reasonable, theres GP with + cranks running with GP IC and they eem pretty good for power.

I have been considering putting my 3% CP back on, though I have changed SC pulley to 17% now on my JCW. I have the GTT intercooler. Has anyone got this combo? I know some folks on here run 19% and even 21% SC pulleys. Is the 17% and 3% too much over the top?

I seem to remember that somebody was running a -15% SC and +3% GTT CP on his JCW...

And to my knowledge +3% CP is the biggest one from GTT.

Im running a 15% S/C & +2% Alta Crank Pulley, and yes your understanding is correct!

Although has anyone got a confirmed size of the JCW Pulley?

This is also confirmed by Tony Franks - ex JCW engineer who designed the JCW kits so it must be right

Ok, your references carry some weight!

But hey, that's good news, it is approximately 1,0838207 % better than I had assumed

anyone notice a lot less engine braking using the reduced weight crank pulley. Also do you also get a whirring noise that increases with speed.

Not noticed any less engine braking effect

can not hear any increased whirring sound - probably killed by my exhaust as I also can not now hear the SC whine increasing

Yes i get that, i did ask about it a while back. When i read up on pullies when i first got one fitted, it was known as the "running tap sound" mine sounds as if there is a running water tap near the glove box area when held on part throttle.

mines more as if there is an air leak from somewhere ( which there is'nt) and is very noticable. I think i'll get Roland to have another listen on Saturday when i go for oil change and general check over, ( will be hitting the big 1000 miles on saturday. run -in in a fortnight.!!

I got a whirring noise right after the CP install, but it is only there when the A/C is on (??). It was very noticeable and I even contacted Roland about it.

Ive never heard a whirring sound after fitting a crank pulley. There are no bearings in it ,it rotates 'as a whole' with the crank. More likely aircon or alternator or sc .

Hey I get that too! lol figured it was just the drawing of air through the partly open throttle body.

I still have it after the removal of the lightened crank so cant be that

Have to say my MINI is quite different with the heavy stock crank back on....

Its is the drawing of air. If you fit an air intake it turns from a triccling/running water noise to a sort of whitle on part throttle....esp if the scuttle panel is removed!
