oil change

i was just wondering if you guys adhere to the MINI standards of changing oil every like 12,000 miles? i was thinking if it was ok to pay extra bucks to get it changed every 5,000 like most cars do... if i wanted to ensure quality of my mini to stay superb, i think this is in a way taking care of it. what do you guys propose? thanks.

As an American living over seas and having done several oil tests on my car I think that chaning at 5K would be a waste of money on a regular daily driver. However, you have to take your driving style and location into consideration when you make this choice. I have tested oil at the BMW interval (Mobil 1) and found ti to be fine. We were (I am a US citizen) encultured with the 3K mile oil change and many cars still have the 5K change as a standard but the MINI engine is better tuned for the longer distance oil. Do I think that you should go the 15? Maybe or maybe not, but you could easliy go to 7 or 8k. This will save oil and you a little change as well.

For what it is worth, oil in the states is cheap. Here it costs 16 Euro for a liter. That is almost 20 for a liter/quart of oil. Longer changes do save us money here.

My MINI hit 37K and I will be splitting the services from this point forward. I have also started using Royal Purple as my oil of choice.

Hope this helps.
