2 Much GTT391 in Mod Mini

I've read it three times now and the article in my eyes doesn't do the car justice in what you two have created.

I cant put my finger on why, but it doen't seem to be written with any excitment or the author being excited in what he has just driven or been a passenger in.

The article doesn't excite you enough to justify the Costs (£21.577 incl vat) where as I'm sure the car does press all the right buttons that you could justify every penny.

I hope I'm wrong and totally reading it in the wrong mood or something

Such a shame really

Totally agree... I'd been looking forward to this article for some time and having now read it the writer doesn't do justice to the power/speed that this car obviously has. This car is the Veyron of the Mini world and the writer just doesn't get excited enough about the raw power. Sure there are some on-road 30-70 figures etc but even they are hidden away. I want to know how it feels to unleash it once you get traction, how the speed builds and how it compares to the likes of say an Evo 340.

I hope someone else writes an article on it soon, most disappointed.

oh thats a bummer, i was looking forward to that too,

However i will say one thing about Modern Mini mag, the writers there just are'nt fully up to it. i read that magazine every month and i cringe on the train, i have even been known to say out loud "a load of rubbish!!!!" with some of the bull they put in there. they do not proofread the articles enough, constantly printing with inaccurate statements in there. in fact one month there front cover headline had a miss-print on it which was published to the world, nice. Thats what you call a good editor.

The trouble as a whole is they never convey the feeling and moments of driving cars. Where as i read a magzine like Evo and on most stories they let me feel how savage a car is, they get me involved with the experience. Mod Mini is just more like an old fashioned mag, you can almost hear the fake smiley "I'm happy" demeanor in the writing and is'nt the world a happy smiley place, look at that car over there it goes Broom broom. Where as something like Evo magazine the articles are more Gene Hunt Grab you by the scruff of the neck your coming on a ride in this car if you like it or not, GGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Your there, your part of the action! I want to feel that 390 Bhp, and lets be honest that has got to be one savage beast. I mean my car sometime makes me ***** my pants, so chirst knows what a mini with another 140Bhp on top is like.

So maybe it would be best to get his car featured in Evo as i knwo they like hot minis ( although prefer to occasionaly featurethe modded car scene)

Oh and i have to be careful as my mates girlfriend writes for Modern Mini mag,,,,lol

I DONT BELIEVE IT, the most powerful Mini in the UK has a little front end shot on the cover with not one mention off 391 bhp etc etc

If they would of made a song and dance about it on the front cover and had a classy front shot like Max Power and Redline etc and put it on Tescos shelves surely there sales would off sored.

Isnt the claims on the front cover what make you buy a mag???

The prob is the mag seems more interested in the cost and that's wrong... When confronted with that it makes you think 'that's way too expensive' As stated above, the writer seemed not to focus on the car and how good/well put together it is, but saying how much money you'll have to spend to get a highly tuned Mini... Come on MM where's the enthusiasm...

Yeah the cost should not be an issue, Lets be realisitic, that car is Super car performance for what 30k ish including the price of the car. And nothing has been skimped on, it could have been done for less, but if you had 390 bhp would you really want the standard brakes, no way.

And thats what Modern Mini have forgotten. However they don't think twice about featuring a radford Mini or a Zeemax kitted mini and saying how expensive it is and thus how amazing it is.

I think its a cracking car, and deep down we're all just a little jealous its not sitting on our own drive.

it boils down to one thing, the Editor of this mag seriously needs to address the inconsistencies in the writing of its magazine and perhaps get a little more involved.

End of day that Mini is The most extreme mini in the Uk at the moment, let alone europe, and they have done a dis-service to it with that feature. Oh and lets remember this is same the magazine that wasted 3 months worth of double page features on the story of somebody who bought a mini, rejected it then bought another one and rejected that. Great.

In my opinion Modern Mini is like Newsroom Southeast vs other magazines like Evo and Practical performance car which would be like the News at ten. They need to step up a gear if they want to stay around. Oh and thats before you read the crap reviews they do with somebody who has bought a boggo standard Mini cooper S, fitted a shortened aerial and then they have done a 4 page review on it, great!!!

Rant over

Its funny how much its wound me up, but it must be really hard to write about the same make and model again and again and again and again and again............................................. ......

I suppose thats why there's never been a mag called Fast Corsa

I can understand why Roland would want the cost in as he'll only get the serious ones ring up for a conversion. (save him loads of hours)

Totally agree with Ant... I wanted to know how the car felt to drive, how the explosiveness of the acceleration kicked in, how the handling/transmission upgrades changed the power delivery to the road over a standard MCS... but more importantly having spent £30k plus, what it feels like next to cars of that price range such as a 996 Carrera S or a BMW M3... something to show what this conversion really gives you in the fun/feel factor.

Whooop!! Can I suggest the Evo track day on the 25th April:

Evo - The 2008 road and track days season has arrived

Might be a good opp to get the guys from Evo to do a write up as they'll be there.

I think its a bit unfair to slaughter a magazine because they run a review on someone's pride and joy which has fewer modifications than someone elses to be honest. I don't believe Modern Mini is aiming its readership at testosterone filled males who are wild eyed whilst reading the magazine!

I have to say I'm not a regular reader of MM, its a bit too community minded for me and to be honest I can get that sort of warm and yummy feeling from the various forums I visit.

Maybe such a car test is a bridge too far for their contributors to really purvey the sense of pleasure and excitement such a car can bring.

However, you've certainly made me think about going out and buying a copy 1320

What can I say... its MM! I no longer subscribe to it as the walk throughs are very poorly done especially twice the first and second pages have the same pics! But also its too expensive, dont reply to emails and almost a East Coast New MINI Mag.

My thoughts anyway!

If enjoyment outweighs cost then bargain

I find it pretty reasonable.

I have not read the GTT car review so can't comment on that specifically... but the community stuff is OK as are some other bits. I have to agree though that some work needs to be put in to proof reading process. As someone who writes papers and guidance for use across several Departments of the Government I am a bit sad and very quickly spot a fair few spellings and punctuation errors every time I read it.

But I find the team helpful and enthusiastic....those elements combined with some input and ideas and constuctive feedback from readers and the MINI community I think could make the mag very good.

I have to agree with the comments about the poor accuracy in MM. I have lost track of the amount of spelling errors I have seen in that magazine.

It really does not take that long to read back what you have just written, I do it all the time with Uni work that I have completed.

A prime example was when my car was in the readers cars section. I had written a couple of paragraphs for them, explaining what I had done to it, and a little bit about my ownership experience, as requested. I then saw it in the magazine, and they had somehow managed to miss out some details, and in between copying and pasting what I had written caused numerous spelling and grammar errors.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not at all offended by poor spelling etc, but when you are paying over £3 for a mag it would be nice to think it had been proof read.

Having said this, I will probably buy the magazine to read about the 300T conversion. It does sound good

Also I'm not wanting to bash the only magazine dedicated to the new MINI.....

But it is very poorly circulated. I live in the town centre of Liverpool, and I cannot usually get a copy anywhere. When I buy it, I end up picking it up at a big supermarket out of town.
