Offline | would a 15% pulley'd MCS DEFINITELY be quicker than a stock 170bhp Hi there, My 170bhp S still feels fast to me, despite driving it hard on many occasions since I got it 5 months ago. However, if i can get one mod done, I was thinking a 15% pulley, but i wanted to know if it makes an ACTUAL difference over a stock mcs. The reason I ask, is because I have no other mods and wanted to know the sort of gains or difference in 0-60 or any other performance benchmark would be achieved? Thanks ![]() ![]() |

Offline | so with 15bhp, is there a real life difference, the reason I ask is because I can be very close to keeping up with 200bhp hatches on a private strip of land nearby, such as the golf gti, when they have 30bhp more? ![]() |

Offline | Its the torque increase that give you the much stronger pull before the HP starts to really show. If you were getting an intercooler as well i'd recommend a 17% pulley ![]() |

Offline | All things being equal the answer is ... YES My car was defo faster running a 15% the day it was fitted compared to the day before ... I had nothing other than the 15% fitted on that particular day. |

Offline | Still not sure where that rumour came from...... higher percentage reduction the more boost pressure the more torque. But there are limitations, more boost equals more heat and this is where the higher percentages loose there HP. As the revs come up as does the heat and so power starts to drop off. Its a balance.... more HP(15%) or more low/mid range torque(19%)........ ![]() |

Offline | The stock IC really struggles with hard driving, even on a 15% (mine did). A 17% on a stock IC will probably not give the power it should and could perform lower power than a 15% as the temps just get too high....risks of engine damge also increase. A 17% is better when you have extra cooling such as a GP or GRS or GTT intercooler though |

Offline | 17% should give more torque, and as you already have the best intercooler (IMO ) then 17% is what I'd go for (and have gone for). I wanted it for more torque vs the 15%. It would seem my car has excellent power just pants torque, so very glad I went with the 15% over the 17%. |

Offline | I think it only fair to point out that smaller than 15% pulleys and lifting the red line to 7000 spins the charger beyond its rated top speed by some margin, and it will effect the life of the charger these chargers do wear and fail -Any internal wear will only cause the charger to become more inefficient over time, this always increases the heat produced by the charger ,and in turn increases the wear rate. these chargers already produce very turbulent air ,which again worsens with wear. There will be a point at which the heat generated will far exceed any intercoolers capability and cause catastrophic failure. There are plenty of 50000 mile plus cars out there ,and the chargers are not serviced or inspected and do leak oil . most owners are not track day driving their car and for sure cant afford catastrophic failure losing power through heat is one thing losing the engine could spoil your day |
