engine managment????????

my uncle has software of some kind that runs off your pc and all you have to do is connect your pc to the ecu in the mini but does anyone know how this is done? It apparently works with all cars and he has it in his car and just plugs in the laptop. I was just wondering if i could do it on mine???? Wouldnt really make a big dealjust tells you cool stuff like throttle % and coolent temperature and bits like that. But just thought it would be cool to plug in to see what it look liked.

cheers

Yes it will work. You need a cable that goes from the laptop to the OBD port under the steering wheel (on a UK spec car). The other choice is that some use a cable that runs to the ECU direct and uses all sorts of converters to read the data instead. This method gives quick cycling sensor info....but for most purposes the OBD port reading softwhere has a fast enough refresh rate to use on the software. Not sure where you can get a cable but they are out there.

So is that just a cable that goes from under the steering wheel to the laptop? is it hard to install?

Yes, it is an OBD2 cable that conencts to the scanner. You can get a serial or usb one.
