'02 One - timing belt/chain ? life ?

Engine is W10B16A - is the timing/cam a belt or chain ? what is the service requirement ? I think that it is a chain and the belt is only for water pump / alternator drive etc. but I am not sure if it varies between engine ?

i think you are refering to the poly-v belt. This is changed at Service Inspection 2, which should be your 4th service. Mine is coming up ('02 cooper) in 2,000miles so will be at 43,000 miles .

the timing is chain cam, the crank belt drives the alternator and water pump and air con on the cooper and those + the s charger on the s s should be swapped every year not sure on the one / cooper
