| MINI2 Senior | Clutch Problem? Reverse Gear Difficult Hi all, I'm wondering if I have a problem with my clutch / gears, as it's sometimes difficult to engage reverse - seems very heavy and clunky. The same could be said for the other gears aswell. Now not sure if this is just because the MINI has a heavy clutch / gearbox, and I'm used to a light Renault gearbox (after 5 years of owning a Clio), so I was hoping someone might be able to give me some pointers on determing if there is a problem or not? Don't really want to take it into BMW for their advice at this stage - whenever I've been in, they're a bit up themselves... Cheers, Oli ![]() |

Offline | I have a stiff gear selection problem but only when the gearbox is cold. When engine and box are warmed up it loosens up quite a bit. Mine`s a 2002 mini one with 58,000 miles. |

Online | My car is fine and it is a 2001 One with near 50k on her. All the gears are fine, but with reverse, you sometimes need to try several times as it wont go in. I have heard this is fairly normal with Minis lol. Quirk perhaps. We testdrove two minis before we got mine and both were the same with reverse so I wouldnt worry. ![]() |

Offline | Same here on a 2002 Cooper. I find putting in neutral, release the clutch, engaged clutch and try reverse again usually solves it for me. I also have the slightly stiff gearbox mainly in 1st & 2nd when cold but loosens up nicely when warmed up. |
