Question std exhaust de cat mod

Hi Guys, would you know if you de-cat the origional exhaust if you must put a straight pipe, or can you leave the cat box but remove the inserts? would it effect power?

you would struggle to replace the cat with a pipe as there is not much room, you could open the cat and strip it out, tbh save your cash and get the real thing. cheap mods do not always make the best value sense

I would hope you are talking about pre-cat removal MINI COOPER :: North American Motoring - Stock Header With No Pre Cat? , for that either the internals can be removed or a replacement pipe fitted.

Removing the main cat would be environmentally irresponsible, the gains minimal, and barely useful even on the track.

In the UK the cat is an integral part of the exhaust manifold. There are aftermarket exhaust manifolds avaible here that allow you to either bolt in a straight pipe or a cat (which in the UK is a part of our vehicle emmissions laws). People do use decat pipes on the road, bolt in the cat for the emissions test and then take it back out. You will probably gain some extra power but only a small amount for the cost and the hassle involved. As for the environmental issue, ask yourself the question. Do they bolt on cats for jet planes, space shuttles or rockets? ERRRR, i dont think they do, and they pump an obscene amount of crap into the atmosphere. My advice don`t bother with de-cat, find another mod that`s value for money and gives better power gains.
