DIY Pipercross or K&N Panel Filter?

Quick question (haven't found a definite answer in other topics)...

What do I go for, for my 2003 MCS;

Pipercross Panel Filter (foam) or K&N Panel Filter (cotton)?

Choice of those two from ebay or a member on here, but can't make up my mind which one to go for.

Not after any gains or noise, just want something which will stay clean (instead of the clogged up OEM one I have) - obviously gains would be nice.

Cheers!

Well, If the world of Off road VW's can tell us anything about air filters, foam filters don't work as well at trapping dust as cotton/gauze filters. some say that K&N filters work even better dirty! Again, this is from old bugs, racing the baja 1000, so how does it transfer to the modern day?

Maybe

Maybe not

Cheers brainycheddar. I've already gone for the Pipercross, but will keep an eye on it to see how quickly the dirt builds up.
