| MINI2 Regular | Big Bad Boy Brakes Vs Discs&pads Hey all Its been along time but i have a prob youe u all I up rated my pads and as i thought would happen, the discs have worped to the point of serious shakking and feed back through the steering wheel. I am wanting to up grade the discs to tarrox drilled and grooved. However i have a number of considerations....R56 CALIPERS AND BRAKES??? bIG BRAKE SET UP BUT UNDER £1000 OR PADS AND DISCS?? Has anyone any thoughts on this one i was thinking that unless a spend a small fortune i am not really going to get the best out of a cheeper big brake set up and so i thought discs and pads. I know brake fade will be much better with a disc and pad set up including a better 5.1 brake fluid but i know stopping power will ot be as hot as some set ups. But do the cheeper set ups such as AP really offer performace or is it just the ilimination of brake fade?? Any thought wopuld be great cheers Phil V6 PHL |

Offline | Discs can warp ,especially if worn thinner ,if the brakes are not released after a big stop due uneven heat dissipation. Brakes are all about heat and the ability to disperse heat - larger discs help ,drilled discs do very little ,groved discs help keep pads clean and stop glazing. larger calipers provide more clamping force as they have greater piston area or more pistons any brake is only as good as the tyres and the abs system. A big brake system will stop the car in exactly the same distance as stock -the abs and tyres are the limiting factor -they will however use less pedal pressure and be able to repeatedly stop the car without heat problems and outlast the stock brakes in life. best value/quality is wilwood IMHO for bigger brakes and they also fit under stock size wheels. simply replacing pads and discs will help in some respects but will never match a big brake kit for fade resistance and durability -if you want that save up! |

| MINI2 Regular | looks like a saving sessiopn might be in order i do find that the yoko rubber help stopping as it is alot softer compound than most. I am going to use willwood brakes and willwood peddle box on my z car as i know they have been prooven over and over by z cars but i good to hear positive things about the willwood set up for the bmw mini too ![]() V6 PHL |
