Yesterday at Santa Pod my car broke the American held 1/4 mile record by crossing the finish line in 105.60 mph beating the previous record of 105.50 mph.
This record was previously set by an M45 Mini Cooper S without the use of NOS and we knew it would be hard to beat, but thanks to the right mixture of RMW parts, 1320autos know-how and a certain little green speed machine we managed to finally beat it.
So what were the stats? Firstly the times:
RMW Head
RMW 440c Injectors
1320 Camshaft
GRS Intercooler
RMW/1320 Custom Remap
Alta V2 CAI
Alta V2 17% Pulley
Janspeed Manifold
Borla Exhaust (Single exit Cooper version)
NGK Spark Plugs
RMW Oil Sump Baffle
Cross Coilover Suspension
Helix Control Arms
AP Racing Brakes
Stock Clutch (On the car since new)
No Diff
Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 Alloys
Yokohama Parada Spec II Tyres (205/40/17)
Tesco 99 Fuel (No additives or NOS)
Std OEM Oil and Fluids
Considering the car doesn't have a diff and is still putting all that power down through the stock clutch IMO it's a testament to what can be achieved by the right combination of performance parts.
Big thanks as ever go to Paul & Jan at 1320/RMW for getting the performance parts list just right and to Chris @1320 for fitting them all with such meticulous relish.
I must admit that the fact that it acheives this whilst driving it off the line is remarkable, add slicks clutch and a quaife its going to be a very low 13 high 12 sec car
It's not how much you spend but how well you spend it
It was nice to speak to Isellem of NAM last night and tell him the news, though he's out of the Minis at the moment he said that he might to have to build another one........................
It's not how much you spend but how well you spend it
As it goes Isellem was driving the car when it went 105.5 as it is owned by a 77 year old gear head
But when you go 105.7mph Ant then we'll have something else to chase, it probably would of gone 106 if Thomas drove it, but unfortunatley he was working.
In all seriousness they're is always a disadvantage when chasing any mph / et record if you have a fully optioned car and weigh 40 stone
It's not how much you spend but how well you spend it
mate i honestly could'nt give a toss about going 105.7, although i have a 13 second car sitting in the garage still but it has a vauxhall badge on it. I'm just saying surely its all about driver and their car. Hows the prep going with the orginal challenge for castle combe
If we'd have been able to run more than twice yesterday I'd have run it myself but rain stopped play.
That said, I know my limits both on the track and strip. I haven't spent money making me a better driver, I've spent money making my car go faster and handle better, that's why I gave it to Paul to set a time at the Pod and thats why I gave it to Evo Magazine to set a time at Bedford, which would have been great if the performance box worked, but Evo will drive it there again so it will be interesting to see what it runs.
In time I'll give it to a pro racing driver to set a time at Castle Combe... then and only then will I go after Rolands time as I'll have max corner speeds to aim for and the perfect lines. In fact I'm off to CC tomorrow for some research. Once I'm happy with the car, I'll then start spending money on making me a better driver so I can actually get the most out of my car. The last thing I want to do is to spank my car at CC, if I beat Rolands time then 'happy days', if I don't then I won't lose sleep about it, it's a bit of fun at the end of the day.
We'll I live in Milton Keynes so it was designed with round-abouts in mind It's simply awesome, I'll never get near the limits of the suspension as the tyres will let go first. Love it!
