Offline | should i change ? Im currently running the JCW air filter which is good but i feel there is better out there. In 06 i had a cooper s with an Alta Induction Kit. would this be better for beathing and noise? Also as far as im aware the pulley is smaller on the JCW models could i change this for a smaller one or better ? One more thing are the Blufin maps any good, seems a bit too easy to map the car with one of those raher than do a diagnostics test? Many thanx Martin dark blue JCW cooper S |

| Lovin' every MINI of it! | I'll toss in my .02 as I missed this thread. To be honest, most CAI are the same when it comes to hp. It is mainly the users choice on what you want. On the JCW pulley you could probably go to a 15%. The JCW pulley is about 11.5% so you will gain a little. Map wise, you have the JCW re-map if you have a JCW. Going to a Bluefin will probably not gain you a thing and might actually cause a loss. A custom tune is the way to go. If you are interested in a tune I would talk to 1320 or Performance Torque to see what they can do for you. Lastly, if you do a search you will see that all of this has been covered before. ![]() Global Moderator ![]() |

| Lovin' every MINI of it! | JCW is a pretty good box especially if you cut the flap out. There are others (I use the MINI-Madness CAI) but they all perform about the same. It really is down to the looks of it rather than performance. Good luck... ![]() Global Moderator ![]() |

| Flying Finn | Many of the recent 230+whp conversions in the US have been with the JCW box, so don't know how you define "best". But it if is about sound effects, deflapping the JCW box and removing the lower plug does help...but there probably are more noisy CAIs out there fore sure if that's what you are after...and probably more flashy ones. I have the JCW box with the Madness filter kit with all the mechanical parts removed. Sam Ps. U had too many questions in your post ![]() |

| Flying Finn | Go here: Mini-Madness.com LINKS Then click "JCW INTAKE FILTER UPGRADE KIT" for instructions how to do the "flap mod". Once you have the box open, you will notice that there is a lower opening in the box which usually comes with a plug. Remove that too for some more noise. Modding does not come much cheaper than that ![]() This is the filter kit itself: JCW Intake High Flow Filter Replacement - JCW Intake High Flow Filter Replacement As has been posted elsewhere, with open CAIs you may even end up loosing power ![]() Ps. I you would ask me, my answer to your initial question would thus be a 'no' (don't change ) - I'd just change the filter if I were you. |

Offline | Just stick in an ITG filter (£40) and pull out all the electric flap and you have a JCM or equivalent of an Alta with a box top! Like I said a CAI will really get you nowhere in terms of hp/trq when compared to a pulley. E.g. Alta V2 CAI what is it approx. £250? You get 1-2 maybe 5hp. -15% pulley max of £300 fitted and you get 20,30 or 40hp!! Do the math. ![]() |

Offline | Im making 232bhp before i got my JanSpeed cat back and the cat had melted and was rattleing around in the cat chamber (so potentially a loss from the faulty cat and now a gain from the cat back and de-cat), the car was rolling roaded using the standard air box with just an alta pannel filter!!! I dare say that i may be running something slighly closer to the 240bhp mark now! Only the surry rolling road day will tell!!!! Alex |
