What does it do? Any gains on power or torque?

Thanks

Viper

Unsure, as far as I am aware they haven't got the viper kit done yet for the S! Pipercross will let me have dyno figures shortly.

Interested

Hi, i'm interested, however, until you post bhp figures and actually have them in stock i won't commit and i doubt if anyone else would.

Not trying to be negative here, just common sense on behalf of the paying public.
BMP for example claim good BHP gains.

Let me know when they are available and what the delivery charges are.

Many thanks

Simon, that dyno graph means nothing to me. Two things. One, what are the mods done on that car? Just Pipercross intake change? If so which one? Two, the graph on its own doesn't mean much. What we really need to see is how it compares to a before graph, with as similar condition as possible. Best if could be one after the other. If Pipercross could give us that then we can make a real comparison between the two.

Graph's

Thats the only dyno chart I have been given, the only mod is the Intake, the main point is the Max power figure on the right of the graph!

Thanks for that!!! Looks promising. Any idea when they are going to have dyno figures for the Viper? That's the one I am really interested in.

The viper will not work on this application, The idea of the viper is to deflect engine bay heat, on the cooper this works fine!

The cooper s is an open filter, surrounded by a polished ali heat shield, I have no heat tests done at the moment but will do soon, because of the cold air feed in the base of the airbox the viper would be to restrictive.

Also on the power graph the main point to look at is the torque band...it is increased all the way through the rev range from stat to maximum power,

The other thing to consider is the quality of the filter it self....Pipercross has a 98.9 % efficiency this is VERY important on supercharged applications... some of the other kits avalible are all very good but some use a cheaper filter from the far east, the efficiency is no way near the pipercross.

Please feel free to ask any other questions.

So the unmodified MCS was running 171BHP with no mods? (just Shell Optimax?)

Yeah, how is it above stock HP with no mods? and why is it a superchips dyno...did it have the superchips ECU? Just checking...

Whatever.

Standard

Car is standard apart from the Filter, Pipercross have used Superchips before and they have a pretty accurate set of rollers, so decision was to use them again! Remember that BMW's power figures are done at quite a high altitude, there cars generally increase a few BHP when put on another set of rollers.

Yes it was standard...Superchips is a local R/R and is know to have one of the most acurate roads in the u.k.

This car was compleatly standard in fact it is a car on this board that we used.

I've not got my S yet, and I won't be changing the air intake until it's run in. Still that doesn't stop me dreaming about a new airtake now.

I've found three viable contenders:
Rogue Engineering cold air intake, claiming a 9.3hp 6.1lbft increase $239
BMP Design cold air intake claiming 12.9hp increase $169.95
Pipercross cold air intake with apparent 5hp 4lbftincrease on the dyno graph shown above £119.95

The Rogue and BMP products would obviously cost more for shipping, and would likely attract an import duty too. My personal favourite would be the BMP product, but I'd love to hear any pros and cons of any CAI product...

Check out my comments in http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...hreadid=13871.

There is a trivial way to change the Rogue CAI to get its air from the same openning used by BMP. The difference is noticable. No one has tested this on a dyno yet but my guess is it closes the power gap, even if it does not close the price gap.

James, your setup is almost identicle to that used by Rogue Engineering, down to using the factory base of the airbox (from what I could tell, correct me if I am wrong). Yet the dyno figures they produce are so much better than yours. How is this possible if you are telling me that the Pipercross has better efficiency in it's filters? Could it be because they use what looks like a bigger filter than yours? I would prefer to buy a filter from a filter specialist like Pipercross, but I the numbers are not promising!
