very carefully.... it takes someone who is understanding of the Mini to dyno it correctly so we can get the proper tune on it. No one has tuned more Mini's than us on the dyno.

It can be done by having the proper setup and the info readily available for me to look at. We have many base maps that will get us close and the fine tuning of extra runs to get it spot on.

However Jan does it the bottom line is that it works.

My car is proof of this

Just look at the torque mine made with 15% pulley

oh ok, its just the guy i know who does mine who has been mapping cars for the last 25 years and is ex-digitec could'nt see how anyone could do a remote tune as thorough as being there with the car.

2. Adam is entirely wrong about flow..... our cylinder head typically flows over 30cfm over the best heads out there

3. It's not just about machining and polishing.... its about how the air flows around the valves

as long as you have all of the pertinent data it isn't that difficult

the key again is:

proper dyno setup
knowing and trusting that dyno person (takes time)
multiple maps on similar configurations

would I do this on a car I don't know like an M3 etc?

NO I wouldn't but I know the Mini ecu very well

This is how I seen it. . . . car dynoed before, Jan puts a map on the car then the car is re-dynoed, then Jan looks at the graph/AFR etc and waves his magic wand and then the the car is fine tuned with more power

Then I drive home smiling like this

I'm not in the market for a cylinder head, but if I were I'd either source one through MiniMania (I've had things done by Adam in the past, and his service is always excellent), or I'd see Roland at GTT - purely as he's more local to me, so would give me more backup in the event of an issue. Nothing against the RMW product as I've heard it's excellent, but I'd rather have my tuner local.

As Adam said above though, all heads will in fact be pretty much the same, as they're all working to the same confined limits. At the end of the day, there is only so much machining and polishing you can do

I don;t agrea with all heads will be near enought the same. Think Aberdeen Al proved that with the head he used. What you need is a head that has a lot of thought gone into it and hopefully loads of testing. Also when you see how much you are paying for it i would always want a brand new head. The GTT ones seem consistent, the RMW ones seem popular too, Lohen i have never heard anything about, minispeed seem to get bad press from what i have read and then you have all the other random ones. The one that consistently gets slated is the JCW one. mainly because it has jack all done to it,.....lol. i'd personally go for ones that have been recomended by more thabn one source. So is uppose it would have to be RMW or GTT. Which one you go for is ultimately up to you.

Spot on AntFR. Not all heads are the same, the ones I have seen have similar ideas but there are quite a few differences which I won't go into as you have to buy it to get the secrets lol

Chris who runs the dyno for 1320 is very, very good. At surrey early this year I was slightly apprehensive when they started spraying water into my intake. How they managed to get it cook in those cold temperatures I have no idea.

Not once have I been worried about putting my car dyno at 1320. I will be saving for this tune at some point, I believe RMW and 1320 work together while the car is there, its not a stevie wonder tune lol... as clearly... it works
