| MINI2 Newbie | For the dumb germans --- does "tranny" as you say mean transmission? I know that Dullinger does some modifications to it. His Mini will run around 250 km/h after the tuning. I think he limited the speed, but I dont have any information on that, I am afraid. I also know that his 180bhp Mini has won several avards (I guess that doesnt count) ... If you don´t trust a person like Dullinger, who is tuning cars for more then 10 years now ... then what about G-Power? Or AC Schnitzer? I mean - what is your point? They give full warranty, two years, unlimited milages. This is standard in the tuning-scene. G-Power also gives two years warranty on their tunings. When I joned this board I hoped for open minded people, but I guess i was wrong. Sorry for making a posting. Phil |

| MINI2 Regular | Snake-- When I say tranny, yes I mean transmission-- BTW I never said you were dumb. If a 2 year warranty and unlimited miliage is what you guys get as your Standard tuning scene warranty--book me on a flight to Germany. My issue is what do they do to upgrade the transmission to be able to handle the power? BMW obviously thinks the standard Cooper tranny cant handle 163HP so how can it handle 180 or even 220 reliably? I dont doubt the ability of Dullinger to tune the Cooper to that level, just if anything is done in the transmission area. If there is not any work done there, does he cover your tranny blowing up, or are you now screwed? First thing I personally need is a Limited Slip Differential to get what power I have already down to the tarmac, then Ill worry about more power. If Dullinger does uprate the transmission or cover it dying because of the mods--then its a good deal for the money--no doubt there--but if not--I would be a little wary. Offline | Couldn't agree more. One would be a fool to mod the base One or Cooper engine. The Cooper S has a forged steel crank and connecting rods and higher quality (and different compression ratio) pistons. It also has additional internal oil cooling mechanism with a higher capacity pump. You definitely get more than a supercharger when you go with an S. Plus, turbocharging will never be as linear as supercharging. One of the greatest advantages of the MINI is its handling. Throw non-linear power delivery in the equation and it's a recipe for degrading the package as a whole. If you want more performance, sell you MC and buy a MCS. If you want even more, at least you have a better base to start your mods with. |

| MINI2 Regular | If you are going to make much more power than stock, you'd have to change the internals of any engine, the One, MC, and MCS are not so greatly overengineered. So if you're going to strap on a turbo and aim for 300 hp, you may as well save some money, buy a One for the body and block, throw away all the crap (engine internals, tranny, etc), and buy (at huge expense) all the necessary new components (which I'm not convinced are available and reliable for MINI). Starting out with a MCS doesn't help because you'd throw away the same parts (except some suspension, crank?). On the other hand, if ~180 hp will make you happy, just get an S (+ exhaust) and smile at your dealer when you visit him to fix things. OR - You can drive your ONE for "scenic" drives, and pick up an older Camero, strip it, tune it to 400 hp, and run that for 1/4 mile times. '02 Indi Blue Cooper, white wheels and roof w/ US flag |

Offline | gist of the previous post is somthing like this: "Hat der Wagen jetzt wirklich 220PS, oder nur die 200HP wie in den Testberichten." - Has the vehicle really got 220 [mushy] P[ea]S now, or only the 200HP [sauce bottles] as in the test report "Hast du auch das Fahrwerk verändert?" - Have you also changed/modified the suspension? "Was micht überrascht hat, waren die Beschleunigungswerte, die ich noch besser erwartet habe, als die bekanntgegebenen 7,0sec von 0-100km." - What surprised me was the acceleration values, that I expected to be even better than the known-given 7.0 sec from 0-62 mph. ......sorry no mention of engine chips, not to mention big, thick, soggy, chippy chips with salt n vinegar. Even the referneces to brown sauce and peas were a somewhat liberal translation. Home, sweet home..... sigh......can someone send me some chips n gravy? or maybe a chip muffin would travel better?
