DIY Superchipping my Mini One D

I have just bought an 05 Mini One D (1.4L - 75BHP) and after reading a few threads on here about superchipping their mini, I'd seriously like to consider doing it, myself.

My local SuperChips Dealer says he can increase the mpg by 30BHP even though the website only quotes an increase of 20BHP. He says his customers are also reporting an increase in MPG by 5 MPG also, depending on how they drive it.

I drive my car to gain the highest MPG possible (I achieve 55mpg on average and that's around town). Though it would be nice to have that extra punch should I need to overtake.

So this leaves me with a few questions:

Do I trust my local Superchips quote of 30BHP increase?

Does anyone know about DIY superchipping? This guy from Germany sells them and he says deals with software, not resistors (which I know can ruin your engine): ebay item number 350096537277 (I'd post a URL but I'm not allowed to yet!)

Has anyone managed to get a deal on superchipping their car or have the pay the online quote (currently £499)? My local Superchips dealer says they are looking into providing a price reduction in view of the current climate.

I superchipped my Mini ONE (1.6 petrol) and the result was incredible. I know this won't be the same for your 1.4D but just so you know i have seen NO change in MPG at all

I used a Tunit. It is fantastic and the amount of power you want is adjustable all you need is an allan key. When I took my mini in they gave me dyno read outs of before and after the Tunit was fitted.

I had an issue though. A engine warning light can on when i changed gear at about 3800rpm when the engine was cold. This did not effect how the car preformed though. I got over this problem by adding a K&N air filter(which also ment less black diesel smoke)
With the Tunit you can plug a laptop into it and it can be easily taken off in a matter of seconds!

I cannot remember how much the price was but it was less then £400

overall though i love it. My mini is now more fun and quite a lot faster to drive and i would recommend it to any mini or diesel car owner.

I'm not sure I like the idea of using an allan key to adjust it, I don't want the insurance company to be able to know that my car is superchipped. When I got a quote (same car, false name, similar address etc.) my premium went from £550 to £1150. I like the idea of the Superchips "chip" as it is undetectable. Does anybody else offer a superchip which increases mpg and BHP as well?

Yeah get it remapped! Its the right way to do it instead of the many bandit ways out there. Its a diesel so less likely to have bad results and being turbo you are only really increasing the boost slightly. Isnt there two different versions of the One? isnt that why he quoted higher HP?

As far as I am aware, there is a 75bhp and 88bhp version of the Mini One (01-05 models). I told him my current bhp was 75 so he knew that.

I've looked around and there are actually a lot of outfits offering ECU remaps, anything from £200 to Superchips rather expensive quote of £490. All come with guarantees but with varying levels of bhp increases.
