MCT? A turbo for the MINI?!

I was just lookin' around minicooperonline and was surprised to see information on a turbo package for the MC that supposedly raised the output to 200hp. According to the post, there will be a "MINI turbo kit developed by Mel's Auto Repair in San Marcos, CA." I would love to hear more about such possibilities. How much power can the transmission handle? What other modifications would be necessary? Is this real? Here's the post:Turbo Info.

MiniMania/MiniSpares have been developing a Turbo kit for a while. There's also some kits (maybe just one, I cant recall just now) coming from Germany. Try searching for the word Turbo.

I personally would go nowhere near a 200bhp kit for the Cooper, it will kill the gearbox very quickly, not to mention risk ruining the rest of the engine too.

Question Pardon my ignorance,

but what in the blue blazes is a "dog box kit?" I'd assume the headers, transmission, cam, and crankshaft would all have to be replaced and maybe the fuel pump to avoid going too lean. Does a dog box kit take care of that stuff? Sorry about the ignorance - just trying to keep up with the rest of the world.

It's a straight cut geared gearbox. it can handle much more power than a conventional gearbox of the same size.

Great for competition but a rear bear to use as a road box as it has no synchromesh.

Crunch, clunck when you engage first gear. You had better be good at heel and toeing......

Dog drive gearboxes are kind of a standard part anymore for racecars. Jack Knight has made the parts for the old Mini for years, also providing optional ratios for individual gears. Turns your gearbox into a Hewland. The straight cuts also have a lot less drive train loss as no energy is wasted by gears pushing each other down their respective shafts as do bevel cut.

The Jack Knight kit shifts fine, but straight cut gears are LOUD, I mean really loud. Like supercharger x 10.

So...

It's efficient and can handle alot of power , but it's also loud and doesn't shift smoothly ...is it worth considering for street driving applications? To be honest, I probably am not looking for such a significant modification, but I am very interested what is availible. I'd also like to hear more about other modifications that would be required surrounding such a large performance upgrade.
