| MINI2 Master | This is interesting. Now, it would be fair enough if, after chipping your car, there was a fault attributable to wear and tear on the engine . However, if the boot-catch stopped working or the sun-roof started to leak, would they have any right to refuse to honour your warranty then? Is there an outright exclusion clause that modifications will invalidate your warranty? If so, how does this fit with the Sale of Goods Act? |

| Test thread infiltrator | oldnell, It'd only invalidate the warranty on the parts it affects. For instance, I have an induction kit, and it's only affected warranty on the air box, which isn't on the car anymore anyway. red1, the chip surpasses the level of the cooper, and is also available for the cooper, if that is understandable! Offline | My View Having talked to my dealer my mind has definitely been set at ease, i agree entirely with everybodies points, how can an induction kit cause a faulty boot lock etc?? My dealer accepts that the car is there to be upgraded (not modified). However, just an opinion, say a small metallic something was to enter the engine then i think anyone would have a hard time trying to prove the filter was not at fault, even to the point of something downstream doing the damage. The other point about the chip, as far as i can tell the chip is virtually undetectable. I am having the Hartge engine upgrade done with the blessing of my dealer and it will not invalidate my warranty or indeed the TLC. There is too much difference between dealers. | Addict | Be careful with that though Dom. If you have some sort of stress-related issue with the engine, they *can* claim things like the extra horespower gained from _____ (fill in the blank with the mod of your choice) caused the ______ (fill in the blank with whatever broke) to be loaded beyond what it was designed to handle... Whatever. |

| MINI2 Regular | engine problems ? So if you fit their cooper chip in a mini1 built by them (BMW)they can still claim that the warrenty is invalid?,surely they have extensive engine data to tell them what will and will not happen,if any of our cars are running on the peugeot engine which is now getting on a bit,how can they protest and say we never knew that (insert engine problem) could happen. They are confident enough to know that cars today dont need a service from new up untill at least 10.000 miles. |

Offline | I'd be suprised if a BMW dealer would re-program a ONE with the same software to give it the same BHP as a Cooper. Some dealers won't even supply you with a part from an S (e.g. chrome fuel cover) if you don't have an S. Was Clarkson not referring to an aftermarket chip such as Superchips when he said "buy a ONE and have it chipped"? Red/Black R56 Cooper |

| MINI2 Global Moderator | Re: cooper chip for Mini 1 The John Cooper Works treatment is only for Coopers so you couldn't have a 'One Works' It's not just a chip either, its a modified cylinder head, new exhuast & air intake. Visit www.johncooper.co.uk the MINI has gone... |
