Magna-Flow Exhaust for MCS

Hello Everyone,

I was doing some research on exhausts lately for my MCS and I ran across the magna flow exhuast on Special Vehicle Concepts MCS. They made some big hp claims so I email magna-flow to confirm the details of the system and this is what I got back

"Blake- Yes we just released the system for the type S. I do not currently have any pictures of the system- However I know the HP gained was 18.1, and the torque is 15.5 increase. It is a dual center exit. the tips are round with a rolled edge. It is a really nice looking system. Of course it is a full SS system backed by our Lifetime Warranty. Thanks for your interest inMagnaflow Performance.
Ellis Lloyd"

Sounds like one hell of a system. Only problem is I haven't heard much of anything about it in the forums. Special Vehicle Concepts swears by the system, so I was hoping for some input. For those of you who havent seen it, it looks very much like the borla system.

Enjoy

Just got another email from magna flow:

Hi Blake,
The system for the Mini Cooper "S" was just recently completed and
we will not have "professional" photos for a week or two. I have attached a
photo taken from the SEMA show a couple of weeks ago. The Performance gains
were very impressive, H.P. gain 18.1 Torque gain 15.5 ft lbs. I have sent
the first shipment to a dealer of ours, and I know he is selling them for
$599.95 You can contact him at (714)637-1357
Thanks for your interest in MagnaFlow.

I really want to see the dyno sheets because if the 18hp gain is legit, I'd buy one today. Looking forward to hearing you alls responses.

Thats the best looking exhaust design wise that I have seen so far and the price is very tempting. Do you know if they are going to make a complete system from the header back?

After my experiences with several aftermarket "performance" exhausts, including first hand dyno and dragstrip testing, i would not believe any mfg's power claims. We actually measured less than 2 hp peak difference between stock and $600 "performance" exhausts and vitually the same torque curve. Grassroots Motorsports is about to release some independent dyno test of exhaust systems...I'd definitely want to wait and read that.

If they guarantee the claimed hp on your car or your money back, you might be alright, but you would have to do a dyno run with and without.

Not sure about a set of headers. Would be nice though. I just sent an email back asking for the dyno results in hopes of verifying the numbers. I'll be sure to post the reply. And yes, at that cost, it is very tempting.

Magna-flow exhaust

I would really like to know if the picture is a true showing of the exhaust. Borla shows a polished product in all their pictures but everyone say's what they get is not.
Very hard to believe HP rating. If true everyone would buy one.Are dyno tests on the way. I hope so!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure about the pic being the final production version. The email I got from them just said this was a snapshot of the system at SEMA, and some profesional photos are to be taken soon. As for the dyno, I'm still waiting to hear back from them.

Can you explain the "pressure bleeds" bit? But if the performance gains are true, i'd be happy just cutting the funnels off and welding something else on!!

Whatever.

Thumbs up Magna-flow

Thanks again for the info. Please keep us all posted if you get new info.Great photo's. If the exhaust produces half of what they claim it's a winner.

Only advantage I can think of is that it will equalize pressure through the system, if there are any scavenging gains to be had, this will take advantage of them.

I have jsut the magna flow muffler on my jeep, and let me tell you, they know exhausts, great stuff, if they can do as much with just the muffler that I have on my jeep, I believe those gains. at least this is the first attempt on a different exhaust, and it looks good.

The real question is what's this sucker weigh? You could get a 20hp gain but if its 50 pounds heaver whats the use.

I talked to the guy at Performance Parts www.getperformanceparts.com

Bottom line 25 folks order you can get 50.00 off which is about the shipping cost. Mention Mini2 group buy.

I ordered one to see what it is like. I hope Magnaflow is honest with there numbers. 18.2 at the wheels seems very high just for an exhaust but heck you never know. Thats almost 30HP at the crank and 15.5lbs of torque.

I talked to a few folks at other Mini Performance shops that flat out say its impossible. I am asking Magnaflow to back their claims with a refund. Cross your fingers.

Weigh it too, please.

Is it just me, or are those dyno plots almost too good to be true? Wonderful increase.

I have to tell you guys I had second thoughts about this system after talking to many Mini performance shops. They almost swayed me.

I slept on it and asked about the weight. They came back and gave me a deminensional weight reading that was really high.

I thought I saw that the stock weight of the Cooper S's exhaust was 40 pounds. Can anyone confirm this?

I am looking for mid pipe back weight.

Jim Cates from Magnaflow has been awesome! I have probably 10 e-mails from him and he responds very quick. Very Nice people!

This is much more than I can say about some of the other companies out there.

Jim (Magnaflow) is going over to the factory at lunch to stick the system itself on a scale.

Although they wouldnt give a warranty return based on the dyno readings, the folks at getperfomanceparts.com said that if I changed my mind before the system went on the car he would refund my money. Since my car wont arrive for 2 more weeks I have some time.

Magna flow had stated to me today that several Mini performance shops are evaluating the product. I asked for a list of those folks so I could get some feed back.

Lets face it guys I would be happy with 10hp at the wheels for the price of this.

Even though my car will be new when this system goes on I hope to see a consederable gain. I plan on a dyno run stock at about 500 miles, then with the exhaust, then with the exhaust and an intake. Then again after it brakes in a bit around 2500 miles. Let you all know what Magnaflow says about the weight.

Note:
I dont play around when it comes to braking in my cars and I am pleased with the results. Both my Stock Impreza and S4 were broken in hard after 500 miles and dyno results were always 10-12 hp higher on both compaired to factory readings. But then again I live at sea level.

Do you know which city they're located in? 714 is my area code, so I might stop by and take a look/chat.

Thanks,

Albert
