Alpina is developing a 200 Bhp Mini Cooper S capable of outgunning the Subaru Impreza WRX. Based on the 155 Bhp supercharged Cooper S, the Alpina uses longer stroke, to stretch the standard 1.6 Litre to approx 1.8 Litre, while increased blower pressure & freer-flowing exhaust will also help boost the torque & power. BMW has access to Mini engineering drawings & an early production prototype. Insiders also claim the Cooper S 6 speed Getrag gearbox is capable of absorbing the 200 Bhp.

The John Cooper Works version is out very soon and has 200Hp.

Besides BMW is keen to keep MINI as a separate brand.

What's with the other thread that says the Alipina MINI was scrapped???? Also, the gearbox will have more problems with torque than HP i believe....

Dont get me wrong folks I love the Mini S but with 200hp it would never keep up with a WRX. 227hp and
0-60 in 5.4 sec Its a bit heaver than the S but has allot of low end torque, thus the fast 0-60.

We need over 250HP to really get past the Subaru. Then there is the STI and that is a different story.

I do believe that the 6 speed can take at least 250 but this is just my opinion.

Yeah, WRX is 4WD and going to be hard to keep up with in a FWD car... Getting a ~7 sec 0-60 time down almost 2 seconds to beat the WRX would be awfuly difficult, IMO...

The scary part is that when I was doing some research for water spray intercooler kits for the Mini I came across the 337hp at the wheels WRX. Now that is impressive.

Let me tell you I will be happy if we can squeeze 250 at the crank out of this little motor.

Your killing me mate and really not understanding the point. Again for the record I love my Cooper S.

The 227-hp WRX sprints from a standstill to 60 mph in a scant 5.8 seconds, covers the quarter-mile in 14.7 seconds at 93 mph, and tops out at 140 mph.

The point is that with a chip change they are close to 280hp with that turbo. You may beat grandma driving her WRX but that's about it. If you EVER came up next to someone with even just an exhaust they would blow us all away.

I could buy every aftermarket hp goodie for the S and still not be close to a slightly modified WRX. Keep dreaming.

MCS with Hartge upgrade 212-215bhp

0-60 5.9 - 6.3 secs (depends on grip.)
0-100 16.1 secs
Top speed 141mph

Not to far off 2000 WRX Impreza 4x4 you will find

Yeah with an extra 50 HP the MCS can come equal to a WRX. Drop that same £1500 into a WRX and there would be simply no competition...

MCS £ 16,200. WRX £ 22,000
No comparison, Id have the MCS and the £ 5,800 in the bank.
I have the same upgrade, quiet impressive dont you think?
Of course the sti is a different matter alltogether.
Now lets see? what can I do with that 5,800 Quid?

Oh i agree entirely. I'm just saying trying to beat a WRX is a stupid, silly goal. If i'd wanted a super-fast car to dragrace people, well i would've gotten something else. Oh well.
