Very tempted to .......

Get the Hartge conversion done by Birds at 1500 quid but don't fancy taking one up the batti from my insurance company (Being 21). Apparently the upgrade is nigh on dectectable so would I be stupid to do the obvious, bearing in mind I don't plan on wrapping it around a tree in the near future.
The thought of 212-215 bhp is making me feel inferior!!

DS/Black Cooper S, Chilli pack, Full leather, Climate DSC, Clear lights and 212 ponies Hartge kit.

212-215 BHP

JH.

My original insurance ( £460.00 ) rose by £200.00 to £650.00
£200.00 very well spent in my view, Although the upgrade is virtualy undetectable Birds strongly advise you to inform your insurance company of the change, also it gives you that feeling of security god forbid if something did happen.
You have also got to think about your warranty and TLC that also becomes void if they trace it.
As for the upgrade, had it for a few days now and can honestly say is worth every penny, the car now is in a different league ( look at the Hartge 212-215bhp posts for more imfo )

James...

Go for the works conversion, at least it's covered by BMW/Mini, you can always get the Hartge wheels and body work on top.

It's not cheap, but as you say, you're insuarance company will be happier with the JCW rather than the hartge.

Just a thought...

Who of you have ever collected on an engine or transmission warranty? Most things that go bad typically are not covered under warranty - clutch, alternator, spark plugs, brake pads, rotors, etc.

If you're purchasing from a reputable tuner such as Hartage warranty really shouldn't be a concern.

I don't quite think BMW/Mini would agree with you!

Really? How surprising and unlikely.

Of course BMW/MINI would take this stance... regardless of which company one chose as tuner. Of course that IS... aside from JCW.

Did you come up with that inside information on your own or do you have a source within BMW/MINI?

What's the point of stating the obvious?

Easy now.

I'm sure James meant nothing by it.

Why will an insurance company be more happier with the JCW non existant conversion and how can you get a quote for it???

My dealer was so impressed that i told him upfront what i was doing that they asked for a test drive and thought it was awesome, they are looking into getting their own car converted, oh and my warranty is intact as well!

£1,500 you say....212BHP...hum..

The £2000 saving over a works is worth the risk alone. I've got to look into this one.

Bonnie Scotland:

Warranty intact ! any modifications like the Hartage will void the warranty (unless MINI can't detect it or you purchased Birds/Hartages own)

The only way to keep warranty and TLC is JCW

On the insurance side of things, I think the JCW will be easier to insure as it should be classed as a standard car i.e they will have Cooper Works S on thier books, rather than having to insure your car as a modified Cooper S, IMHO

Cheers

Michael

Really? Who told you that?

I know it's endorsed by BMW but surely as far as the insurance company is concerned it's a modified S.

LMB:

The Works S is classed as a seperate car, not modified. If you phone up MINI insurance they have it down as the 'Works S', similarly they have the 'cooper works' as well. I think the information was only released a day or so ago.

I've not tried any other insurance companies yet, but I'm sure the info will trickle down to the other ones.

Now all I've got to do is phone round and get the car insured

Cheers

Michael
