Cooper S Sound improvement....

I noticed that engine sound and supercharger whine improve when the insulation is removed from the underside of the bonnet (hood), not to mention a very small weight reduction.... However I had second thoughts about engine heat damaging the paint so I re-installed it.

Any thoughts ?

fire control

Typically the insulation under the bonnet acts as a "fire blanket" in the event on an engine fire. Notice if it has plastic retainers. The plastic is supposed to melt and then the blanket falls on the engine. Of course my old acura integra did not have a this feature but....

Yes the retainers are plastic but the insulation is also screwed in place by the intercooler scoop assembly which has metal screws. Additionally, the xenon washer assemblies would prevent the insulation from coming down. The insulation may be fire-proof but I believe its primary function is to keep noise in for emissions purposes.
