One more question... is it ok to show up just to hang out? I really dont have the $50 to blow right before xmas and I've already baselined my car.

cheese: do show up, you may be the only engineer among a bunch of Yunicks! it will be interesting, I can assure you of that. Helix is advertising it as an open house, with the option of dyno runs.

Whoa...just had a schedule change!! I might make it there after all! If I do come I'll probably come with an E39 M5, MCS, and maybe an E46 M3 (my friends). What time are you guys planning on getting there?

Whatever.

You could just rent a car carrier, it'd be easier

Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball.

Good time

Nice seeing you folks at the dyno day. Could have been a bit warmer out but you can't have everything I guess. I departed early so I did not see other cars up on the dyno. Any interesting results?

You can see pics and AVIs from the day at my web site.

See ya

When are you installing that Quaife in the pictures from your dyno day?

re: Dyno Day

Cool

Have you sorted out the install details yet? I'm very curious about where to get that done...

Shouldn't be too hard, should it? I mean it is just a differential right? I know when I had a Quaife installed on my VW Corrado VR6, it was not a terrible operation. I happened to need a new clutch at that time and chose to have a new one installed. In addition, I had my transmission rebuilt at that time as well but then I had 100,000 miles on the motor at that time.

Since the MCS is nearly factory fresh I'd think you could keep the stock clutch and not touch the tranny (wrt rebuilding it). Depending upon the power the clutch is ultimately rated for you may want an upgraded one. The only other thing some people seem to do when they are in there is to pull the flywheel and lighten that.

A Quaife is a wonderful, wonderful thing!

here is a repeat posting of my readings for 11/14 and 12/14:

Evotech chip, rogue intake and exhaust, 16" OZ Superleggera, Toyo T1. car has sunroof, nav, stereo with 25 lbs of dynamat!. Weight was with 165 lb driver, 1/4 tank gas and measured on a scale, not estimated. The tires and exhaust lose about 75 lbs from stock.

I notice on the dyno report it states the weight as 2675 lbs. Is that an estimate or the actual measured weight? If it is measured then what is the spec of your car?...i.e. sunroof, wheels, aircon, etc. thanks!

Not a good Dyno showing

JLM,

Did your results go down from the baseline test or am I reading the chart wrong?

the results on 12/14 were lower in value than on 11/14, however, you must bear in mind that ambient conditions were considerably different. The relevant information is that the curves are so similar and the numbers for 12/14 were very close to the numbers other cars measured the same day.

since my car had considerable mods and it is making virtually the same hp as the two stock cars, the conclusion seems to be that the mods are doing nothing.

It is also possible that the dyno is somehow producing the notch and maybe skewing all the results, however the curve similarity between 11/14 1nd 12/14 and the similarity of the stock runs seems to indicate the numbers are valuable for comparison.

John,

Would you care to elaborate on the mods you currently have? I'd like to get an intake & exhaust, but not if there's no payoff. Thanks for any info.
