Cooper Turbo

I know I have already posted a thread about the new Cooper Turbo kit but I now have different questions to ask.

On the MiniMania site where this fantastic kit is advertised, an optional part is the boost controller. Does this mean I can control the amount of boost the turbo kicks out. My purpose for this is that I use the car everyday for work so I don't want to rack up expensive fuel bills. I also want to use the car on the track so as well as wanting a bit more power on the street.

Basically can the turbo be turned on and off(or reduced)?

Any help will be rewarded…with…a smile!

Happy Motoring

The idea behind the optional remote boost control is exactly as you state - to vary the amount of boost available at the intake. We are in the process of finalizing the specifications so the range of adjustment for the production unit is yet to be defined. We should have this information shortly.

Thanks for asking!

Happy holidays

I have to say that the kit sounds fantastic and if the range is pretty good as far as everyday use is concerned then I will certainly be ordering a set.

The Aquamist water injection system on the turbo Cooper also has an adjustable controller. On Mini Mania's car, when I saw it at the SEMA show last month, they had mounted it in the engine compartment but the Aquamist people told me that it is often mounted inside so you can adjust the water delivery.

Does the Aquamist water injection system work in conjunction with the intercooler or instead of the intercooler. I want this kit but don't really want to cut a hole in the front to fit the intercoller, not yet anyway.

What difference will the intercooler make?

If you guys are interested in intercooler sprayers check out The Intelligent Intercooler Water Sprayer.

An intercooler is a must for higher boost levels.

The size of the wastegate will determine how much boost can be bled off, or "controlled". I would assume anyone designing a turbo system would insure the wastegate was big enough to handle a modified exhaust flow.

To answer the first guy's question, if you put a weak enough spring in the wastegate and backed your boost controller all the way off you could run around all day without boosting. Most stock wastegate springs are around 5psi so you could only go that low. My FC RX-7 will boost right around 5 psi w/o a pressure source on the actuator.

This will probably be the thing to do later on down the road. Take an S engine and then turbo it after the SC has gone TU. You've already got the piston oil-sprayers and the lower compression.
