Offline | Air Filter Question Recently spoke to my dealer about a different type of air filter and asked his opinion. His comments were the existing filter and housing due to the length of the system provides for additional torque at low revs whereas if you replace it with a cone type filter, you gain torque at the higher end but loose it at the lower end. Driving a ONE it is probably not a good idea to loose low end torque, gearbox ratio's etc. Comments anybody. Also How does the Pipercross Viper compare to the cone type filters? I understand about the cold air system, but wondered about the overall length compared to the original. Was a 1, now 1 of 150 in a 40 |

Offline | Air Filter Question I have only looked at info for the S but it should be the same for all MINIs. All dyno print outs I have seen show a shift in torque of about 500rpm below 3000 to 3500rpm. By that I mean you get the same torque you had to begin with only 500rpm sooner (a good thing). Some where around 3500rpm you begin to seen torque above your original max. I have never seen a drop in low end torque. What I have also seen is increase in max. hp/kw; however, if you look closely this power increase is as high as 7500rpm in some that I have seen. Street engines do not spend a lot of time at those revs. Many blow before getting there. Before you by demand dyno sheets. If they don't have them for you ... save you money. If they have them, read them carefully. But what do I know? I'm an old man. Motor on |

Offline | Thanks for the reply tsprayfhs. So if I understand your answer correctly, the torque I would expect at say 3000 revs can now be expected at 2500 revs? I think i will drop Pipercross a line for their dyno sheets. Dont let them young un's get to you. Us old un's have been there, done that ![]() Was a 1, now 1 of 150 in a 40 |

Offline | Re: Air Filter Question I have always questioned the dyno charts that show power increases out to 7500rpm. Afterall there is a fuel cut off at approx 6900rpm. If all they are claiming is that changing the air filter adds Hp, how do they explain how they got the engine to rev past the fuel shut-off? If they re-chipped the engine then the test is bogus. In answer to your question. You know plenty. You've seen plenty. And, in seeing plenty you are skeptical. Nothing the matter with that. Being a bit of a skeptic helps to keep you out of trouble and saves you money in the long run. Motor on, Dudes and Dudettes!!! '06 MCS SB/S '02 MCS DS/W (retired) |

Offline | Bilbo Baggins and the rest of the GANG here, the so called DYNO runs that are in Mini-Madness are from MY vehicle, and YES I was there to see ALL DYNO runs and the car did not have a fuel cut off at 6500. I know MOST of you are skeptical but trust me I have the DYNO runs on hand and are published in Mini-Madness Call George at madness |
