The Magnaflow's sound doesn't bother me at all. I have to turn the radio up a little but I find that conversation isn't inhibited at all. I really prefer the sound inside the car and outside. I got my MCS to be a sportscar. If I had wanted a smooth, quiet ride I would have gotten a Cadilac.

Just my $.02

FYI,

Thin rubber-like materials (Dyna-mat etc.) will quiet things down - mainly mid-band resonance, and that's good because these are the noises our ears hear best. You might be surprised at the improvements - less road noise, vibration related etc.

...But don't think you're gonna kill the low frequencies. To significantly deaden low frequencies requires THICK and or multi-density absorptive materials (think inches of wool, fiberglass/rock wool insulation or similar).

Sound dampening

Of course if we go on a trip, the back seats will be down, and there isn't going to be much I can do to stop it then. Are you living with its low tone? (happy?)
Thanks

I have no problem with the sound and neither does my wife. My daughter doesn't really mind but it is louder in the back so I do want to dampen it for her sake.
I agree with StrangeLove, if it were just my wife and I, nothing would need to be done.
Honestly it's not that bad and I'm being the careful parent here.
minimc. You're right about low freq sounds. Lead sheeting would help
I've test fit some Dynamat and even though it's not attached it does help. It'll be better when applied properly. It's been so cold that it may be a while before I can put it on. I have the template for the boot made. Just waiting for some heat.

Romhog: If you're traveling you'll have luggage. Nice softsiders full of clothes will do a real good job of dampening sound. Just remember to not block the air ducts in the boot if you're going to run any AC.

Like the way the clamps cleaned up the lines under the car,
Installed a single layer of Dynamat on the boot floor and in the tailgate door. Took just enough edge of the exhaust sound so the back seat is nice.

Obehave,

Did you happen to do the tailgate and boot separately so that you could tell which area had the most effect on the sound?

Thanks in advance,

Have you thought about putting some in the side doors? Im getting my windows tinted nexr weekend and think im going to get a roll while they are off, and line them. Will let you all know how much more that cuts down tire / road noise.

whats your guess on the total Sq.ft. for doing the trunk like you did, and the doors like you might do? I want to order some B-Quiet.

The Wedge Pack is 18" X 32" or 4.125 sq. ft.
That allowed me to go up the vertical lip at the rear of the back seats about 2.5 or so inches. Started flush at the rear lip under the vents. Had a few bits and pieces left I used to fill in around the battery better than you see in the picture.

The doors I haven't measured yet but at a guess they would be twice that per door. That's if you just want to do the outer skin alone. More if you want to do the speakers of the door insert.
I imagne if you use 80% to 90% of the surface area of the outer skin measured on the exterior you'd be close. There's always places to put more if you have leftovers. I stuck a couple of patches inside the 2 doors on both sides of the boot

Clipped this from a PM response....

I've used Borla clamps in the past but there was a month+ backorder on them so I bought these instead. Ended up a pretty good quality part. They're listed as DynoMax but that wasn't the name on the product.
Bought them from Summit Racing $8.50 each. P/N WLK-33240(check to make sure that p/n is for the 2 1/2 I needed for the MagnaFlow system.)

Summit ph# 1-800-230-3030
JEGS ph# 1-800-345-4545
JEGS p/n 289-35979
I listed JEGS as an option

Does anybody know where I might pick up some Dynamat? Is it available at the automotive chain stores such as Pep Boys, Advance Auto Parts, etc. Many thanks.

I've found that for me the offending frequency was at 3K RPMS ±200.
Is this true for you? I'm trying to get a feel for what may be perceived as the most offensive.
