Magnaflow experiences so far

After driving around for a day with the Magnaflow on my car I've noticed the balance of the car feels different.
I know it's been pointed out that it weighs less than the stock exhaust. But what I don't think has been pointed out is how it's distributed.
With the resonator up by the cat there's a good 12-15 lbs shifted forward.
With the stock system it's weight is 90% above or behind the rear axle.

The sound intrusion is quite noticeable so I'm going to have to do some sound dampening in the back. I think the battery box and the rear hatch door work as fine resonance boxes. They'll be my first 2 victims.

Magnaflow

Obehave,

I have read elsewhere that the Magnaflow is louder inside the car. Is it only at wot or does it reasonate all the time? Does it create enough noise that you would have to speak a lot louder in coversation or turn up the volume on the radio significantly? Also, other than weight shift, does the car seem a lot quicker? You have the same intake I do and I have been trying to decide on an exhaust. The Magnaflow along with an intake seems to be the hot setup but the noise issue has held me back.

Thanks in advance,
Bluesmaster

having come from a CRX with a lukey muffler that turned the inside of the tiny cabin into something resembling ground zero for a heavy metal band, noise is not an issue.

I am VERY interested to hear about ride as I foolishly never considered weight distrabution.

before I order and ship to australia I want to be sure.

P.S. how much did it cost?

Not to hijack Obehave's thread, but I thought I'd chime in since I recently installed the Magnaflow exhaust on my MCS.

First of all, my opinion on sound is just that... an opinion. The topic of sound is very subjective to personal taste.

IMO, the system isn't too loud or boomy. Highway cruising does not yield any drone (IMO again).

It's noticeable that there's an aftermarket exhaust there, but not obnoxious. I think Magnaflow did a good job in tuning this system to create a good balance between volume and minimizing drone.

One thing that suprised me is that it sounds louder outside the car than inside. I got several chances to hear the car as my wife drove (with me following behind in another car). The system really comes to life when she gets on the pedal, but coasting or keeping the speed constant, the sound is not loud.

Power-wise, I can definitely feel an overall improvement across most of the RPM band, with a definite improvement in throttle response. As for differences in weight distribution, I can't say for certain, as we have not had a chance to put the car through the twisties yet.

$$$ for HP and sound, I would definitely do this mod again. Bottom line is that this exhaust, for me, has made driving the MCS that much more fun.

One thing, speed wise, is that it took my MCS about 150-200 miles to reach what I feel is the max increase in power from the exhaust.

At first I couldn't be sure that I wasn't imaging more power. Now there's an obvious improvement. With my Rogue intake and the Magnaflow I get a real kick in the pants when I get around 4000 rpm.

thanks for doing it!

This URL will give you exterior sound
http://home.attbi.com/~kksc1/index.html

Would love to hear the interior sound - while at idle and going through the gears.

Where would you be getting your borla clamps from? Please PM me if you have good source.

Thanks

The MagnaFlow uses standard "U" type muffler clamps. The one section of pipe in mid tunnel you can turn the clamp 90º so the bolt heads don't point straight down. The clamp at the rear you can't do this. Not good. Just in front of the rear axle you've got these bolts poking down.

Is it a concern that the bolt heads might possibly get damaged (sheared, stripped, etc.) during driving? It didn't occur to me that anything was wrong with the design... although maybe I'm missing something important here.

Inquiring minds want to know.

oh those are perfect, thanks. I think that the magnaflow is a deeper bass sound, but I like that. The only reason you might fight to think its a bit loud in the cabin, is becasue bass travels of course much further in all directions. I think dynomat the boot hatch and the area around the batt. (like others said) and that will make up for it. Eeven pad the underside of the trunk cover. I think then it would sound close to stock stock.

Call it my paranoia but the less pointy things hanging from the bottom of my car the better.

The clamp at mid tunnel if left pointing down has the potential of being a speed bump scraper for sure.

The rearward one is just in front of the rear axle so is not as great a concern for me.
Nondestructive concerns would be crap like plastic bags, clothing or even small branches. Basically all the crap you try to dodge but can't always get done.
Although that is a LOT more fun and possible in a MINI

Awesome! I especially like the video of the 15-70mph run. The combo of exhaust and supercharger whine is fantastic.

Stupid question, but does the magnaflow connect AFTER the resonator? Or does the resonator come off from the stock setup? I don't want to remove any stock emissions, to prevent the engine light from coming on for whatever reason.
If the magnaflow has this resonator as a replacement, that's fine. Anyone do this install themselves?
Thanks

Huh? obehave isn't suggesting you get a Borla exhaust, just the clamps. Borla has nice WIDE stainless clamps similar to those pictured. These "band clamps" won't pinch the exhaust pipe & they seal better than U style clamps.

Do you have plans to add sound material on the inside to quiet the bass sounds that baby puts out? Or is it bearable for you thus far? I don't think I'm going to care either way, but im taking some trips with the wife this summer in it, and might want to look in to getting something. Of course if we go on a trip, the back seats will be down, and there isn't going to be much I can do to stop it then. Are you living with its low tone? (happy?)
Thanks
