CCC mag's Review - Hartge, GGR conversions

Hello people,

Yeah bought "Cars & Car Conversions" magazine yesterday, they have an article about Mini conversions available - including Falkland's Performance MiniONE, LAD's COOPER, Janspeed's COOPER, GrahamGoodeRacing(GGR)COOPER S, and finally Hartge's COOPER S.

They seem to like the GGR conversion more than the Hartge's, purely because of low end driveability, price. *Quote from the magazine about Hartge -
"Low speed part throttle driveability is not good, as the engine hunts and wavers as the ECU seems unsure of which tune to play.Give it some throttle though, and a full symphony is unleashed, with a wall of torque from low revs through a storming midrange, right up to topend performance that goes on to 7000rpm plus."

With reference to the "Hartge Review on Top Gear" thread i think QQQ mentioned the same as above, CCC seem to agree when driving at low revs its hunting for revs - have'nt heard anyone else say this namely people that have had the conversion and EVO mag.

So the GGR conversion(207bhp) they seem very impressed with it for the price of £999 (£1175 fitted) which is good value for money IMO.

Would be good if someone could scan the article as i have no scanner

Chris

No problems with my Hartge conversion, infact driveability has been improved IMO..

I had the car out at Donington yesterday and revved the nuts of it 7500rpm lap after lap...

I think the issue (if there at all) is always with low down the rev range, nobody seems to have a bad word to say about it's high revving fun.

I have visited a number of Leeds news agents including 2 branches of WH Smith for March CCC, but all sold out. My local news agent called her wholesaler & they were also sold out!! Can someone 'bend the rules' and scan in a copy of the MINI article, PLEASE.

That's just the point, every day, in all traffic conditions, after trying both, and using the "I've got to live with this" criteria , thats why I went the GGR route

I'm getting 212 bhp,on an rolling road I use in the Midlands and that was with a PiperCross Cone filter, that was/is not part of the GGR Conversion, as I already had it.

I would really advice anybody not to be to hung up about max bhp though, it's torque and drive-ability that is most important. In standard form GGR would claim around 207 bhp I think ?.Their test car had not been run in when I drove it with less than 900 miles on the clock, but it has big brakes , which I didn't have.

I have 11,000 miles on the clock.

A highly inaccurately measured sub 7.00 secs, but I know that this could be further improved (but I'm not) if the run flat tyres were substituted !

The basic engine for any +8 Morgan is the Rover V8 from the Range Rover.
Mine is an engine developed by TVR Power in Coventry who prepare all the engines for TVR, it was then further developed by John Eales also based in Coventry, another exponent of the V8, the drive is through a BMW Getrag box, which is the only box that will take the developed power.

Yep Chris, thanks for bringing it to our notice. Brilliant read, especially for anyone seriously contemplating a conversion. As you say GGR seems to come out tops. Not much longer to wait for JCW, then it's eyes peeled for the first press report!

Sorry pal, would not have a clue how to. Presumably you've tried the newsagent/warehouse route
