QS

Max,
Although it is made in the UK, many Yanks have it installed. It is very light, 20-25 pounds and has a sporty tone which is nice but not too loud. It makes between 8-13 hp depending on what other mods you have done. A nicely done exhaust. Easy to install.

There was a recent Quicksilver group buy ... search for the thread and read the last couple of pages for impressions.

There's also this Magnaflow / Quicksilver / Borla comparison:

It took two of us two hours to install it on a lift.In my opinion it takes two people, and I wouldn't want to do it on my back.It is too noisy for me,I've even installed B-Quiet sound deadening material under the boot carpet and under the rear seat.

I organized a group buy for this system a few months ago. I did it myself, on ramps in a couple hours. I like the look, tame but aggressive sound, lightness and it will make your MCS move a little faster Some reports have the QS kicking-out gains comparable to the MagnaFlow. Others slighlty less. Factor in a more mellow sound, if you don't want high dbs, I feel that the QS is the best compromise out there: hp & torque gain, weight savings, and minimal sound increase being objective factors. Sujectively, I love the look! The wide oval exit lends itself to the soft contours of the MINI. Thumbs up!

now its growing into me
and also they say it is possible to change the tips anyway if u dun like it (comming soon i think??)
there is a groupbuy now in minicooperonline
i am wondering if they will ship to australia.
if they do i will 99percent buy the exhaust (assume the shipping cost won't cost too much )

shipping costs

If you are going to have something shipped to you from abroad, it might as well be the QS b/c it is very light and not all one piece - like stock. I doubt something can be shipped to you for less. Well, besides a ST...

Also, after reading my earlier post, I should probably re-word something to be more accurate. The db gains with this system are there. You can check MINI-Madness for those figures, compared to stock. However, relatively speaking (ie MagnaFlow, et al), it is not as loud. The db is an objective measure. If you want to increase performance, while decreasing weight, and limit the db's, then the QS should receive strong consideration!

What type of sound one prefers, well, that is subjective obviously. And yes, I've heard about tips for sometime now. I don't mind dual pipes. I just like them on cars with true dual exhaust.

hello!

i've had the QS on my car for about 3 weeks. i'm very happy with the purchase. the sound is very nice. not too loud at all, and it won't wake up your neighbors either! the tip is nice also, its unique and different than the stock, and it shows others that u have some new, something with some serious hp gain! good luck! ciao.

TonyB, Is it possible to get in on the QS group buy? If so, or if you have any other information about it, please email me at pholt33@yahoo.com

Thanks,

The QS group buy I organized ended almost 3 months ago. I think someone is setting one up now though. He might be in Europe. Do a search to see...

If not, do one yourself. Contact George at MINI-Madness to see if he will work with you. You can tell him that you are on MINI2 and that I referred you to him.

Good luck!

Received an email from Quicksilver this morning - Two new tip designs are available in approx. 3 weeks. Twin round design (pictured below) and twin oval. All £496 including VAT and delivery.

I must say I am very tempted

With the twin exit pipe arrangement, I've ended up with one clean & one black (see pic). Due to the way the gas flows I guess. The rest of it is turning brown already, after 3 mths & 3K miles. Sound & performance are good though.

Hey ive had my QS exhaust now for 4weeks and i love it, the sound is perfect, not too loud, but loads of crackles and pops when you lift off. there is no resonance at motorway speeds and it defiately made my ONE respond more crisply at higher RPM.

GO FOR IT, you wil love it!

JonnyC

ps.

i have the same problem with the one black and one clean tail pipes, but easily solved with some really tough wheel cleaner, comes off in a jiffy

have fun!

Thumbs up My QS 2 cents worth .......

OK, here is what I can offer.......... I have had a "standard" QS for maybe 10 months with many miles logged, but no track use. Then this summer I added a QS header, and larger throttle body added to my already in use pulley reduction, cold air intake with rear wall mod, ECU remapping, cold plugs, etc, etc ...... SO I go for a ride up the turnpike for about 3 hours driving 80 -90 mph. Have lunch, visit and return home at the same pace. Few days later I noticed when under the car, the single muffler can actually had WARPED around it's internal framing so to speak in a concave manner. WOW, never guessed that much heat got that far back, but wrote it off to the new header, TB, etc, especially the header with more free'r flowing CAT. SO, next I call my contact where I bought it, and he tells me of the new QS "Sport" muffler can. Free'r flowing, louder, bla bla bla, plus changeable tips..

SO, I say OK, lets try it. Installed the new rear muffler can, which has a much easier, adjustable tip section, which is removeable / changeable. This helped alot in aligning the tip to the rear apron where it exists which is not possible with alot of the other systems / exhausts. This is significantly louder than the normal QS muffler can, and came with the oval tip. The dual tip was being reworked due to the issues already mentioned about one clean tip, and one dirty.

SO, it is louder,( Sport Version ) and would be obnoxious to some, BUT it is has not warped from all the heat and is doing fine and shoud add to the HP numbers. Incidentally, I did finally get the dual tip, and changed it out easily enough. Now I have two different tips, and I can change them out if the mood strikes me.

My long winded point is, with any of these systems, if you heavily mod, you should be watching your header temps, CAT temps and also your muffler can temps as with all that added HP the darn thing wants to breath, and breath she will !!

Happy motoring !

Quicksilver Sale

Hi All -

Caught this thread...we are extending our sale on Quicksilver Downpipes/Manifolds through the end of this month (both in the UK and the US). We have them in stock here in the US, along with the single round, dual round, and dual oval backboxes.

The DP / Manifolds are $788 on sale, normally over $950.00.

Regards,
Ken

I'm sure it's harmless, but that's very curious. Good eye, Ecko!

I've been looking at the various exhausts for some time now & not heard of this. I wonder if there may be a benefit, i.e. improving the flow, if a small change were made to allow the gases to exit both pipes?
