Germany JCW Owners: Do they use the stock air filter element?

I've was comparing the detailed parts lists of the JCW kits for both the Cooper and the Cooper S. One item of interest to me is that it appears that they use the stock airboxes in both instances, but only replace the air filter in the standard Cooper kit.

I read a lot of articles and see dyno runs about how replacement filters increase horsepower, last longer, etc. A couple of contrary opinions on their use are shown [url=http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Upgrade/Air_filter.htm]here. /URL] I find it very interesting that JCW left off the replacement filter on the S version, particularly when you would expect better horsepower results from a filter replacement on the S vs. the standard Cooper. I wonder if filtration is that much more important that they were willing to go without it even at the risk of some substantial power gains (to protect the supercharger?).

Green Cooper

This is their "reason" (an answer on my email to JC about your question)

"Thanks for your email

The reason we did not fit a replacement filter to the S is because it gaveno significant power gain and increased the cabin noise to an unacceptable level.

Best regards

JCW"

Well, the choice is yours as there are many alternatives.

very "Works".
