Oil cooler. My '88 GTI 16V had one just like it.

i did, but I'm not selling the parts as of yet...sorry.

i don't think the plumbing to the doodad will support oil at 60psi, and that is a punky radiator if that is what it is. I'll look into it tomorrrow.

check out the dirt crammed into the lower idler pulley.

I believe the oil never touches those rubber hoses. Engine coolant circulates through that box, while oil circulates through other passages as it travels between the oil filter and the engine block. It's a water/oil heat exchanger.

Very good Andy, a lot of VW's have them, my GTI does, my 89 cabriolet did, they lower temps a few degree's but its nothing to get excited about.

Just for interest's sake, what does an engine cost? US dollars is fine, I'll convert.

Gee that looks like a high quality casting....

The way to port the intake is from the other end, although Im not sure its possible/necessary with the funky inlet angle.

this is the flange joint at the blower intake; it connects to a tubing section going to the throttle body.

The gasket is fitted around a short tube extension, so it cannot compres into the flow area.

The huge step opposes the flow, so what I would do is match the port shape to the tubing section it is fed by. Since it is the intake/low pressure side of the blower, and since we would be augmenting intake flow, i would expect the output pressure to increase.
It is typical of the blower joints and the intercooler snoot joints on the pressure side, and probably the snoot manifold joint.

The actual inlet of air to the rotor chamber is what cheese has indicated needs some optimizing.

I paid $2500 for the used motor from a salvage yard.
