DSC Worth it?

Hey,

I spoke to my new "best friend" at my BMW dealership and he told me

The only noticible difference between ASC+T & DSC is that DSC helps to
prevent the car from oversteering & understeering, and is able to keep the
vehicle on a safe course within the physical limits by reducing engine power
and applying brakes.

Simple question for anyone that has tested a MCS with DSC over ASC:

Is it worth the extra $$ for the Dynamic

I have no real intention to take my MCS to track days and i dont intend to push it to its limits on the road, do we need the car to think for us?

ooo and is the trip computer worth having for an extra 100 quid?

Forget the Trip Computer and get the DSC. It could save your life.

If you can afford to get both, do. If not, get the DSC.

I have it, and I like it. I switch it off a lot, but I like to know it's there when it might be needed.

It's a safety feature.

I've driven Cooper S's and Coopers with DSC and ASC+T, the DSC is worth the extra in my view.

I have the luck to have both DSC and ASC (two cooper S's), and I must say, the DSC equipped car is actually faster than the ASC equipped car from point to point with it turned on..... so it must make a diffeence....

Some people will say that if you need a saftey feature like DSC then you are addmitting that you can't really drive properly. What a load of rubbish, don't listen to them... DSC comes into its own not when you are blasting down the lanes enjoying your driving, but when you get caught out or surprised (for instance, if you go around a corner to find an obstruction, and have to adjust your line)...

The time you regret not fitting a saftey feature to your car when you could have is when you are sitting upside down in a ditch.....

Well said tony this is where i found the difference to dsc dosent seem to kill the power as hard either or cut in as much.

Enjoy the new motor rob.

The trip meant to be in acurate and so there for pretty pointless.

My only complaint - my MCS doesn't "launch" well into traffic with the DSC engaged. It cuts power and the car falls on its nose trying to stop wheel spin that is not inappropriate for such a start. The first time it happened, damn near got me clipped by another car.

So now, I switch it off whenever I have to get into a tight spot in rush hour traffic.

I really wish MINI would re-program it somehow, but I don't know how they would.

What I really would like is a limited slip differential. Sounds like they work pretty well. But also sounds like they cost USD $1,000 or more installed.

Dave

Gotten anything useful from MINI2? How about giving a little something back?

I will, im really looking forward to the car getting deliverd (my dealership said they can drop it round while im at work, fantasic service)

I am taking the decision not to put the Automatic Air Conditioning over the Manual. I dont know if this is a good or bad idea. I have seen several people on this board say that they wish they hadnt had the Automatic Air con fitted, and if given the oportunity would change it for the dials.

What do you think?

I also want to put some differnt aftermarket wheels on it, would the Mini/BMW dealership have any problems with me getting the wheels shipped to them, and for them to fit and align them? There must be someone who has had this done.

Whilst I understand what you're saying Dave, and agree that it would be nice if you could seperate the issue, it is not the DSC component cutting in Dave, rather it is actually the traction control component that is causing your problems off the line..., this happens whether you have ASC or DSC...

It always happens when you are trying to 'show off' a little away from the lights too..... and don't mention it to any of the guys who forgot to turm it off on their first run at the 1/4 mile track..>!!!!

A bit OT, but I am one of the ones that wishes they had Manual A/C. Not that much of a bother, but one of the only things I really don't like about my MINI.

I would be much happier with my aircon system not trying to outthink me.

Yeah, a little OT, but let me help there a bit. I fully agree with ManAir being better....

My MCS has ManAir/AST
My wifes MCS has AutoAir/DSC...

The ideal car would be ManAir/DSC....

You can't have it all I suppose!!!
