Offline | Quicksilver Exhaust After looking at exhaust offerings as listed in the FAQ's on this subject, it seems to me that the Quicksilver exhaust is the best choice, at least from the info available--Much (25 lbs.+) weight saving, good sound but not too loud. Has anyone installed one on an "S"? I would like to know if there are any problems that I haven't read about yet. My main concern is if there is an annoying drone on a road trip. Does anyone know how to get one in the USA? Thanks for your help. |

| MINI2 Regular | I was in on a group buy for one about 6 weeks ago, there was a delay in the shipping but I should get mine soon enough, others have started to already. I will keep you posted. I believe the QS is the best option for me as well, I just love it's design and pluses. -Anto DS/B MINI Cooper S Got It: 2/9/03. It's All Excellent. |

Offline | Quicksilver exhaust Mini Madness (mini-madness.com) is the US retailer for the Quicksilver exhaust. The twin tip design is coming out this month. That's the one I'm waiting for. Pat '03 CR MCS |

Offline | I installed mine about 3 months ago.Check with Randy of minimotorsports. The weight and craftmanship are real assets. It took 2 hours for two of us with a lift.It is not a one hour install on your back. The hardest part is getting the old one off. It's a bit noisier than I would like.I've installed sound deadening and dampening material from B-Quiet.I love the single oval tip. |

Offline | Thanks for the responses, guys. Mikehome1--What is the B-Quiet material like? How is it installed? Antranik--Is the ...852&start=50&53 part of the web address? I'm only a recent iMac user, and I'm not that familiar with the ins and outs of web addresses. Thanks--Roger ----- 03 MCS, BRG/White w/ stripes, sunroof, aero grille |

Offline | After doing some more research, including looking at the QS brochure, I can't seem to get a consensus about the sound. The responses/commentary range from "too loud" to "nice and throaty." Some feel they need B-Quiet sound deadening, and some don't. What do most of you think re: 1. Overall loudness under acceleration 2. Droning noise on a road trip. Number one isn't a problem for me; I like it a bit noisy when you're punching it. Number two is my biggest concern--I'm retiring soon (yes, I'm an old guy), and I want to take the Mini on a long trip. If anybody has installed their new QS by now, I'd love to hear what you think, especially in these two areas. By the way, the QS sales info from mini-madness online indicates that the loudness only increases a few decibels from stock. Can this be realistic? Regards to all--Roger |

Offline | Roger: I've only ridden in a QS-equipped mini once, but in the grand scheme of things this is not a loud exhaust. Not the type you hear coming a block away, nor a harsh sound. I drove my car back to back with the QS mini (mine's stock) and it's a notch up from stock, and a pleasant sound. (Deeper tone, but not booming.) I specifically sought someone out to hear it, and I'd recommend posting here to see who in the area might have one. When it's time that's what I'm buying. Hope this helps, Jeff |

Offline | Just got mine on today. Have not done high-way yet. Around town it is not to loud for me (mid 40s with 2 teen kids). Even the wife approves. In fact she had a nice grin on when she got back from a solo rip. It makes the car sound like it looks - some attitude. I will report back after I have some road miles. At idle - definetly no problem - only slightly louder than stock (very slight). At WOT over 6k it get a ripping sound that sounds pretty wild. Still not screaming loud at all, but definetly not stock. I think it was the right choice for me. Took about 1 1/2 hour to install (front on ramps, back on stands). I will adjust it some more later this week - it's a little crooked. Wes |

| MINI2 Regular | Wes, that's a great review you just wrote, thanks. I will be receiving the same exhaust soon and am anxious to know what it sounds like, sounds like it won't bother me but it will give me the performance gains we all want. -Anto DS/B MINI Cooper S Got It: 2/9/03. Offline | I got the QS in a group buy I initiated here several months back. And, if I were in the market for a system at this very moment, I'd get the same one! First, the sound is just perfect for me. My girlfriend has not commented on the loudness, and I have the rear seats out I would say that it is throaty under load, and has a very cool gurgling sound when laying-off of the gas...Sound aside though - it really performs! Most dynos and representations I've seen show it producing the same to 1 to 2 hp less than the MagnaFlow (MF is an acronym I'll avoid ). And with it being 10+ lbs less than the Magna, well, that puts them even more neck-to-neck in real world performance...I don't think you will be disappointed. Try to hear one in person though, if that is really important to you... Ciao! '03 (9.6.02) MCS IB/W Lapis Blue Leather Mission = 10:1 (Weight:HP) |

Offline | Thanks, everyone. I'm gonna get a QS within 2 weeks, and to hell with convincing my wife. I'll have it in time for some hot-lapping at the new road course we have here in LA. Regards--Roger |
