Offline | Borla exhaust ??? I heard all the sound files and seen all the pictures but I'm still not convinced that this is the exhaust for me. I'm looking for something louder and throatier then the factory exhaust, but not sooo loud you going to here me coming a block away. My wife drives my MINI a lot and I know she not going want attract a lot of attention to her. Cabin sound is very important (not to loud). For those who have the Borla how much louder is the Borla compared to stock? Any suggestions are welcome…. Offline | Re: Borla exhaust ??? i've heard the borla, quicksilver and magnaflow standing at the side of the road with the cars driving by. the borla is quietest of the three not that much louder then stock--especially if you're not on the gas hard. but that's my interpretation, exhaust "noise" is hugely subjective if you're really worried you need to get a ride in a car with the borla. |

Offline | Magaflow= LOUD, drones at crusing speeds, growly/raspy note. Dual trumpet tips, dual muffler design. Borla= Nice and refined growl, very serious note, not as loud as many other systems. Twin round tips, slightly larger diameter than stock, dual muffler. Quicksilver= Quieter than Magnaflow, louder than Borla, serious, refined note. Large oval tip, similar to Boxster (optional dual tip available) Single muffler design. Just my observations, hope it helps a little. Check them all out here: http://www.outmotoring.com/speed.html |

Offline | hey, I've got a magnaflow and have no idea what this "drone" "raspy noise" hogwash is about. My wife -- who thinks everything is too loud -- and 11 year old son love the sweet sounds that the magnaflow produces. People actually no come up to my Mini in parking lots and ask about my exhaust system! Magnaflow owners out there speak up! Offline | I have had both the Magnaflow and Borla on my car. Subjectively I would put the Magnaflow at 300% stock volume and Borla at 150%. The Borla makes an extra 5hp and I got 10hp from the Magnaflow. The Borla has a great rumble from outside the car and can only really be heard inside when statioary. The Borla is a great fit for what you are looking for. 2007 DS/W MCS LSD, sport suspension, Enkei RPM2 wheels 2002 EB/W MCS Sport package, Rogue intake, Borla exhaust, 15% pulley & Madness sway bar |

Offline | i think that's just paddy's car, it sounds a lot more like a small-block v8 then a dinky 4-cylinder. i don't know what it is, but his car just sounds way too loud and growling for a cooper! |

Offline | Thanks for the compliments. I really do love my Borla. I still go with the theory that the opened up Pipercross Viper really contributes to the overall exhaust note. I guess that we will have to compare 'notes' on the 19th.... ![]() "We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail..." -- President George W. Bush - Sept. 20, 2001 |

Offline | Great deal on a Borla here... Dinlo - The Borla is considered by most the correct exhaust upgrade if you are looking for that little bit extra without too much extra loudness. Nothing against the Magnaflow, SuperSprint and others. I've heard the Borla on a freinds car (an S) and it adds a slightly deeper, throaty note but does not intrude on the cabin levels much. There is a great group buy going on here (BORLA). It is a great price, but it will not happen until 5 are ordered. So far I am the only one. I spoke to the vendor on the phone today and feel good about them. Check it out! Picked up 12 July 2002. 69,000 rev happy miles Autocrossing in G Stock this year!!! |

Offline | Anybody compare the Borla and the Helix for the Cooper? I saw / heard a Helix recently and really like it, but my dealership has Borlas laying around ready to install and people seem to like them. |

Offline | Re: Re: Great deal on a Borla here... Oh! a header!!! You're a few steps ahead of me. I've got the intake and of course have now ordered the exhaust. I'm waiting for my dealership to quote their installed price for the pulley/ecu combo. Then, before a header, I'll be looking into rims and tires. Oh the humanity....when will the spending end??? at least that is what my wife wants to know ![]() Picked up 12 July 2002. 69,000 rev happy miles Autocrossing in G Stock this year!!! |

| MINI2 Newbie | Not to take business away from anyone but I've heard of quality problems with the Borla exhaust. I was looking at picking up one since I like its "stock" appearance but I was told of the quality issue and that another brand of stock looking exhaust would be out soon (a 2 1/2" model with should provide more hp than the Borla). I can't remember who the manufacturer is of the new exhaust but I can report back if anyone is interested. |

Offline | I am kinda confused!!! Mini mania lists two different Borla exhaust systems for the Cooper S. A Borla S http://new.minimania.com/web/item/NME1020/invDetail.cfm and a Borla SPORT http://new.minimania.com/web/item/NME1021/invDetail.cfm So when you guys say that the Borla is not that much louder than stock which Borla are you talking about? Does anyone have this SPORT version installed?? Andy. Liquid Yellow Cooper S. Sunroof, Mulifunction Wheel, Climate Control, Heated Seats, DSC, Fog Lights,Xenon Head Lights, Trailer Hitch. |

Offline | I have not heard about any quality problems. The Borla uses a smaller diameter pipe after the "Y" connector and some say that keeping the larger pipe all the way back would increase power. I'm not sure why as there's only half the flow through each pipe after the split. 2007 DS/W MCS LSD, sport suspension, Enkei RPM2 wheels 2002 EB/W MCS Sport package, Rogue intake, Borla exhaust, 15% pulley & Madness sway bar |
