Offline | question for Cooper JCW owners (if any) Ok, i got the documentation of the JCW Mini Cooper (non S) modification, and i was wondering if any one here has had that mod made their Cooper, and if so, was worth it?? Also, i was wondering if you think getting the JCW mod but adding the PiperX Venom air filter is a good combination?? Is there somewhere i can get some dyno for the Venom air filter for the Cooper?? thank you in advance!! |

Offline | 400bhpmini I've had mine converted back in February this year (no:49) Yes it's much better than standard, and keeps the warranty, and will have a second hand value etc., but it's not good value. The killer is, that it appears if you modify the head, then this will cancel out any gains made by any SuperChip type upgrades, and vice versa. My Cooper Works pushed out 132 bhp on the Dyno, (Exactly what it should), but you can get the similar gains by fitting a PlayMini exhaust and a Superchip conversion costing total £500 plus about £80 for an air intake. My Cooper conversion with the Sports exhaust (which is an extra), and the Open air filter cost around £2,300 ! Not sure what route I would take if I had my time again. Hope this helps RJK Knoxy |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | Hello, Ginge here. Fellow Cooper Works expert! First Cooper Works Owner IMHO Cooper Works is not good value if you are going to be buying a brand new car. Cooper S is only a couple of hundred quid more. However if you have a Cooper already it is the most powerful conversion you can get for it and you retain your warranty also. Mine pushed 140.9BHP on the recent MINI2 Dyno day. This was 5BHP above it's nearest rival! The new Works conversion is not the same though. It uses a different exhaust and JCW only claim 122BHP for it when they claimed 132 for my car I'm not sure why they have changed it but I suggest you contact them on Tel: +44 (0)1903 784784 info@johncooper.co.uk ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

Offline | Ginge Good BHP from your JCW. Is yours a straight JCW car or have you had any extras fitted ? - It pushes out quite a bit more power than mine. I'm getting a header fitted on Saturday and it's also done nearly 4000 miles now, so I'm maybe I'll get near to the BHP your figures your can pushes out. RJK Knoxy |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | My car is totally bog standard, save for a two MINI2 stickers! It was the first Works sold to a customer anywhere in the World. Number 009. It depends on the day really with rolling roads, as has been said before, you can't really compare one rolling road session to another. You can only really compare all the cars on the day. My JCW held up fine though and showed although the conversion is expensive the JCW boys know what they're doing. Have you got the open induction system on yours? This is supposed to add a couple of BHP over the closed induction system anyway. ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

Offline | Ginge I have to agree, the JCW lads down in Brighton certainly know their stuff. I've dealt with them since my first Cooper back in 1990 (Twin Carb days), and to date, I've had 4 classic conversions, and now my new Mini, the quality of the work, knowledge and technical assistance over the years has been faultless. But they also know how to charge. Having said that, I never thought of going elsewhere, at the end of the day I feel it's the only real option. Yes, I've had the Works open air filter fitted, along with the JCW cat back exhaust system. I don't know if the filter gave any individual improvement because I had the whole thing done in one go. It's a long way from Preston (Lancs) to Preston (Sussex) !!. Probably not, looking at your BHP readings, but it sounds good ! As I said earlier I'll be getting a Milltek header fitted and dyno'd on Saturday, let you know the results. The consensus is, that for a modified car like ours it should give a significant improvement, we'll see. RJK Knoxy |
