Offline | Hmmmm, Just thinking.....what if i were to get a getrag gearbox from say a crashed cooper S, and want to fit it too my cooper - are there any major pros's or cons, pitfalls or anything else that i should be thinking about? Ive an indiction kit, so the airbox shouldn't present a problem, but will the battery position? It has been mentioned that i might have to move it to the back, a la cooper S? any thoughts? Offline | Goin can you enlighten a bit further? I was nievely thinking that the S box would just bolt on as a complete unit - cogs an all - can you explain a bit more? Ta G ![]() MINI Cooper, Chili Pack, Xenons, heated washers, MFSW, ASC+T, |

| 1.6 Litres of fury!!!! | I think what he meant by saying gearbox, was the whole tranny. So he's thinking about swapping his 5 speed tranny for the S getrag tranny. The only insight I can provide is...Because the 6 speed tranny is bigger you might have problems mounting it. Do the Cooper and S share the same engine mounting points? If so, it might just be a swap out swap in deal. I can't see any real problems doing it though. -Jason 2002 Dark Silver Cooper S w/ white roof. SOLD |

| Numb from Jäger | I was thinking clutch pack and flywheel. All aftermarket cases have seperate MC and MCS pieces. I know its the case of 5 spd vs. 6 spd, I just don't know if the "mating" of the two are interchangable. I'm sure the 6 speed will drop right in. I just don't think it will be that "easy." -goin440 IB/IB MC |

| 1.6 Litres of fury!!!! | Why are you looking to change the gearbox? Do you just want the 6 speed? Because my only problem with the whole thing is that the getrag is geared for more horsepower. So, unless you really plan on modifying your Cooper to 160hp or more you might be just making your car slower (ie heavier tranny and taller gear ratios). -Jason 2002 Dark Silver Cooper S w/ white roof. Offline | I just fancied the 6 speed.... i think by all reports that once broken in, it is a superior box, plus i was under the impression that 5th in the Cooper was the same ratio as 6th in the S, therefore the ratios would be closer in between..(how far am i off the mark??) gerry MINI Cooper, Chili Pack, Xenons, heated washers, MFSW, ASC+T, |

| Numb from Jäger | Yeah, but the questions remains... Are the pieces directly interchangable (do the bolts line up). I don't know if an MCS flywheel/clutch can be fitted to the MC outdrive, and so on. Then, I don't know if the stock MC pieces would work with the just the gearbox. The interchangeable thing. By all means though, go for it, and let us know how it turns out. -goin440 IB/IB MC |

| MINI2 Master | The S gearbox is too tall in 1st and 2nd even for the S engine and its waaay too tall for the Cooper engine. Most racers want closer ratios and lower 1st and 2nd especially. If you do the swap, you'll want to put a different final drive ratio in too to lower the gearing. Aftermarket final drives are available for the Getrag. Offline | agree with HarryIndiBlue... I'd trade my six speed for five speed any day. Even with my mods, first and second are way too tall. '02 EB/W MCS w/Sport pkg, Rogue intake, Helix 15% pulley, Magnecor wires, Bosch platinums, Magnaflow exhaust, Exel white wheels. |
