Basically I have been looking on ebay at them, you can pick one up for around £30. Very tempted to try it out I must admit.

My warranty is up in August anyway....

Could always sell it on ebay again afterwards I suppose....

the MINI has gone...

I am just about to email them to find out whats what. Im going to ask if they have anything to do with the truck air filter company (see above), whether their product will have any real impact on a newly produced car, and also if they will do a discount for a group buy (I will mention that Im in a New Mini club, I just wont mention which one ).

I only posted this thread, beacuse I read the reviews, but obviously some ppl on here didn't bother to check these reviews. It was good to see some check these reviews for themselves then make a statement.

Good on ya, I was made to look a fool by some, I'm not being rude, just saying how it is

Keep up the good work guys.

Its getting late, I could do with bed about now, but this is a copy of the email I sent them.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I myself am affiliated with a new Mini club and one of our members has recently brought your product to our attention. Before either my colleagues or myself commit to purchasing your product I would very much appreciate it if you could answer a few queries that we may have.

Firstly, many of the magazines who have given your product glowing reviews (including Max Power, Revs, Street Machine and Redline) specialise in the modification of older vehicles. Most of our members own Minis that are less than two years old, and so would your product be as effective in a new car where similar technologies would already have been developed and installed at the factory?

Secondly, do you have any affiliation with www.ecotec.co.uk ? This is a UK based limited company specialising in airflow management for trucks.

Thirdly, would the installation of your product void our Mini/BMW warranties?

Lastly, would you consider the possibility of a group buy discount, and if so what percentage discount for what volume of orders?

Thank you for your time in this matter and I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Yours sincerely,

......my name......

I will let you know what they have to say when they reply. I know this whole thing sounds too good to be true, but maybe there will be a pot of gold at the end of this rainbow!

All the best,

Adam

Good job there. I have a funny feeling though, that the mini may have something already developed into it. But we won't know until the guys you are emailing get back to you.

Again good job

Got a reply which is as follows:

Adam

Thanks for your email.

The Ecotek will still improve both the performance and the economy on a modern engine. The basic rule of thumb when fitting the Ecotek is to ensure that you fit the device into one of the vacuum lines which will allow the turbulent air from the Ecotek feed to all 4 cylinders, comprehensive instructions and video are here http://www.ecotekplc.com/fitting.htm

Although we do have a £5 million product liability insurance, the manufacturer or your dealer has the final say on any warranty issues and I would recommend that you contact your dealer to discuss whether fitting an Ecotek would have any effect on the warranty - most companies are happy with the Ecotek.

We are not associated in any way with the truck aerodynamic company in any way, shape or form - we're totally independent.

We would be able to offer your club members a discount of 10% on Gold, Red and Blue Ecoteks. If you have any queries, please contact me on 01844-212939

Regards,

Tim

Next Im going to email Mini and see what they say.

All the best,

Adam

Well the warranty will definitely be out on fitting this, but you could always get another length of pipe to bridge between the valve and your existing hoses so that you don't have to cut what is already there.... therefore being able to return it to original state for trips to the dealers

How about we get the guy to send us one for a demo before we go for the 10% offer?

the MINI has gone...

If you do by a product like this test it out. At least this product is only £50 - the TURBOZET was £350!

I remember the TURBOZET , a couple of pc cooling fans and a bit of plastic

Interesting response about rolling road tests, I hope you took it further?

England Ecotek worked for me

I used to have one my one of my older cars. (not a mini).

I think it did work in the following ways:

1) fuel consumption was a little better (about 5%)
2) emissions were lower
3) felt a little more responsive

of all three benefits number 3) was a very minor thing. I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone gets one for this reason alone.

The problem was that it was noisey and fairly unpleasant noise too. (like sucking from a straw)

For L50 the best you can do to improve performance or fuel economy is to invest in a K&N drop in air filter or a replacement set of spark plug wires. Just my two cents worth.

Got a reply from Mini:

Dear Mr xxxxxxx
Thank you for your email to MINI Customer Services dated 13 April 2004,
regarding the effect of the fitment of the part you refer to.

I can advise that MINI do not recommend the fitment of any non approved
parts and will have also not tested any such item. We will therefore not be
able to advise you on any potential problems that could arise.

If this part was installed we would reserve the right to refuse any warranty
claim that was felt the problem had occurred as a result of the fitment of
this part.

I trust that you can understand our views on this matter and that our
response clarifies our stance on this product. I would like to take this
opportunity to thank you for taking the time for contact ourselves about
this product.

Yours sincerely

James Everitt
Customer Service Executive

What I want to know is if this means that it would invalidate the whole warranty, or just the warranty on any claims directly caused by or related to the installed product? Anyway, I dont think Im going to be fitting one...

The is a EU legislation around somewhere that states that no on item can invalidate the whole warranty of a car.

This device is only any use to any old vehicles
not really needed ina Mini.

My initial interest was how it could help cure some of the torque probs in the Mini, but its not an isssue anymore.

Rather fit an induction kit instead.
