Engine differences between Cooper and One ?

Just wondering what, if any, engine components are
different between the Cooper and the One.

Obviously the engine block is the same but are the
injection and exhaust systems, etc different or is
the extra power of the Cooper version just achieved with
a different map in the management system?

I've had a look at the data section and it doesn't shed any light on the the phyisical differences.

I think the differences are mainly in the ECU, as superchips can map them both to the same BHP using the same chip. Rumour has it that superchips are bringing out a 150bhp chip for the cooper, which would imply engine differences. Not sure if there's any truth behind this though, haven't really looked.

Hope that helps,

Dom

As far as I know there are no mechanical differences between the ONE and the COOPER engine. The lack of power of the ONE results in decreased maximum opening angle of the electronic controlled intake throttle.
The final gear ratios are diferent: around 3.5:1 for the ONE, 3.9:1 for the COOPER, which means, where the cooper revs 5000 1/min, zhe ONE is only revving 4500 1/min - this you can feel in a better flexibility of the COOPER.
The exhaust layouts are different as well. The COOPER has two silencers (one in the middle, one under the boot) the ONE has only one (maybe that's where its name comes from ) under the boot - not very ideal in regards of exhaust flow.
If you would fit a ONE exhaust on a COOPER it probably would have less power.
The sound of the COOPER exhaust is IMO much better than that of the ONE.

Works Club Sport has re-flashed ECU presumably to allow for greater air intake / exhaust flow but also to move the power curve slighlty - I would guess the same is true of the differences between a one and a cooper

Wink No Difference

jomini is right, the One and Cooper engines are mechanically identical. The only differences are the ECU / throttle calibration, the exhaust and the final drive ratio.
