how long after your new pulley was your speeding ticket

Well, I was hoping this wouldn't happen. I got my pulley changed almost two months ago and, I’ve seen my mpg(miles per gallon) drop off and now, I’ve even seen blue lights.

Until my pulley change I was becoming very good at minding my average mpg on the trip computer. I found that if you leave the average mpg on the display it’s almost a game to ones self to see if you can keep your numbers high. I was getting an easy 32 on the highway and 25 around town. Enter the 15% pulley reduction.

Along with my pulley reduction I installed a cold air intake. That means my MINI now sounds like it has a vacuum cleaner under the hood. It’s such a sweet sound that is borderline addictive. Since then, I’ve seen my mpg on the highway and city fall off. It is only due to the fact that I love to step on the right pedal and hear that sound. The extra power that these to after market items add is just phenomenal.

The other day I was on a trip to my closest MINI dealer for some work. I was going to be late for my appointment and speed up to make it on time. Oh No, I got hit by a radar gun and knew I was busted.

How long did it take you to get your first speeding ticket after you got your pulley upgrade?

Thats the reason I didn't get the on board computer. I knew the average milage would drive me insane. I would want to drive the car fast, but then would feel bad once I looked at the gas milage. My suggestion is to just leave it on the temperature display .

I was the organizer and host of "the Cincinnati pulley party" where Randy Webb installed 19 pulleys over a three day period. The modifications were done in a model home garage in an upscale subdivision. As a builder in the neighborhood,I asked everyone to watch their speed in the community.
One of the first cars to be modified was driven over 100 miles to attend. After his pulley was installed,I asked the car owner if I could ride with him,I wanted to see how a pulleyed car ran,my MCS wasn't modified yet.We drove slowly out of the neighborhood, and for the first 1/4 mile.I directed the driver to a less traveled road and told him "to hit it",The police clocked the car at 70mph,we hadn't driven a full mile.

I think you might have everyone beat on that one. Less than a mile and clocked by the Po Po. How did it turn out? Ticket, fist fight, loss of DL? What was the speed limit there?

I was returning to DC from just having had the pulley installed by Eric @ Helix in Philly. Speed limt was 65 and I was doing 70. Crossed over into Delaware and was unaware speed limit had dropped to 55. But the state trooper wasn't. Worst of all I was ticketed for doing 60 in a 55 zone!

Now that's just plain WRONG! A ticket for a 5mph difference? Or were you actually going faster and he was being nice? Doubt it, those Delaware police are NASTY! My wife was doing almost TWICE the speed limit in Pennsylvania last week in her Acura and she just got a warning. The conversation went something like this:

Officer: "Is there some reason why you were doing 48mph in a 25mph zone"
Wife: "Ahhh...no"
Office: "License and registration"
Wife: -fiddles with license holder-
Wife: "It appears to be stuck. I've never had to get it out before"
Officer: "Well, alright, but next time you'll be doing 25mph on this road, right?"
Wife: "Yes sir!"

Of course, I'm getting a lot of usage out of it since I've never had a ticket, which I remind her of daily. But, my MINI shows up in a week, so that may change!

I think you are all driving too slow!

We removed the pulley, and the supercharger on Silver Sonic and installed a Turbo charger. I was on my way to work one day, and got well over 105 mph. When the state trooper pulled me over, I was sure I was going to miss a few days of work. But he just let me go and told me to drive slower and to be more careful!

I guess it just wasn't my turn!

Blue Thunder, how many miles does Silver Sonic have on her now (with the turbo)? Are there any plans to bring this to market? Do share...

Turbo kit in the future?

The turbo car has about 5000 miles. We will most likely make a kit. There are a few things i'm planning to change before we get serious. We just finished a ported & polished head, and that might get installed in a few weeks. The turbo kit will cost a few dollars, To do it right it requires some parts.

A few weeks ago "Go Mini" magazine was at our place and they seemed to really like the cars. The turbo car is pretty impressive.

If you go to the Promini.com site, and then go to project cars. You can see the specs. on both cars.

BT, I haven't been to that website in several weeks, and it has changed - really improved. Here is a direct link to Silver Sonic:

http://www.promini.com/project_cars/silver_sonic/

I wish we could see some detailed photos, but I understand that it might not be prudent to do so, competition-wise. Please do share your driving impressions. With that much power in your hands (FWD), it would seem to be a little hard to control under some situations. I see the hp rating at 287, do you recall the torque?

Keep us posted on kit developments. Thanks.
