| Numb from Jäger | If your in the US, it won't void anything. "They" say it does, but they have to legally prove the fault is directly related to the muffler install. Sound is something of personal opinion. I have a Flowmaster that would annoy everybody on this board (unless somebody has NO exhaust). I like it, not ricey, super mellow, awesome tone. Other muffs are less resenate on the interior than mine, and a lot quieter on the outside. Like I said, personal opinion. Install is simple. Take it to your local muffler shop. My whole system cost $90. $50 for muffler, $40 for install, depending on what you want. I only got mine replaced about mid-way back. They cut my exhaust (had to, I wanted 2.5") and welded a 2"-2.25"-2.5" extension. They bent the bends and fabbed hangers--basically hung, position, weld, done. Will try to get some pics. -goin440 IB/IB MC |

Offline | Depending on the type of Muffler.. Glass packs which are considered mufflers as well begin at 29.95 and go up from there.. Tuner or really Import mufflers you find in APC sectionsa at places like Pep boys , Advance and other auto parts places can be in the $50 range. From there going to a local muffler shop (Econo mufflers for me) in your area can install them at the prices Goin440 stated.. Some National Muffler shops like Tuffy may not install them cause they believe in Factory style only and wont touch an after market install. Im staying this because i owned a 85 Vandura van with a 350. It had a custom exhaust . Duals with Dual cats and glass packs. I went to a tuffy to get a pinhole wielded up on one of the exhaust and they refused to work on it cause it wasnt stock and said they could get a fine if they did. The current exhaust on my MINI .. Dual Suppertraps($120.00 off ebay) was installed at Econo muffler for only $80.00. Have fun, Be safe and Keep MOTOV8N 02 MCS DS/W (Totaled November 02 on Fall Folage Run) 03 MCS DS/W (See my MINI Profie for extensive list of mods) |

| Numb from Jäger | Ebay is a pretty good source. I actually got mine from a family member that works at a NAPA warehouse (but ebay was cheaper for the same). The exhausts out there for the MINIs right now are mostly cat-backs. Easy bolt on, and replacement of everything behind the header pretty much. Down fall is the price. One could buy just the muffler and take it to uncle joe's hole-in-the-wall exhaust shop and replace the same amount for around $150 total (with quality mandrel bends too). Bolt-on conveinience and DIY account for a lot. Here's mine: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You'll notice I painted mine with flat black high temp paint---subtle and not flashy. I had the shop fab a tip---basically a 3" OD to 3" ID extension I found at Autozone. I searched and searched for tips on the net and at local shops and couldn't find one small enough. Most were 5 to 8 inches long---which would stick out far enough to use as a wheelie bar. This extension is about 3-3/4 to 4" long. Perfect. The shop chopped my existing stock system, bent some 2.5", fabbed a step-up (see pic), welded, hung hangers, positioned muffler, welded, chopped muff exit (excess not needed for tip), positioned tip then welded. Done. I got it home and backed on to these blocks and painted the exhaust. Granted pressure bends not mandrel, aluminized not stainless... but after I get a header, its all coming back out. Total including install: $90 My muff doesn't use any packing or sound materials so interior resonance is booming. Its a 40 series "original" Flowmaster (not delta flow, but that would make it quieter). After a few weeks, not a prob on long trips. Outside sound I compared to my brother's '95 autox ACR Neon that has just the resonators. Similar tones, his is a bit louder and "whiny-er." Mine is more bassy, and buzzier. Definently will wake the neighbors if I whomp it. -goin440 IB/IB MC Last edited by goin440 : Oct 9th, 2003 at 03:48 PM. |
