"Silver Sonic" Turbo S is alive!!!

We just fired up Silver Sonic (this is our latest project car, Turbo Cooper S) I even impressed myself! 3 cranks and it fired up, and idles like a champ. No leaks and all sounds great. Perfomance is pretty impressive. We tried 25 P.S.I. of boost. I like it!!! I like it a lot!!!!!!! We turned it down, it seemed kind of rough on a car with only 3000 miles. The sound is great, we installed one of our Supersprint large tube systems with the 12 lb single rear race mufflers. We should be able to post some photos tomarrow, If anyone was at the BMP Mini Roundup last Saturday, this was the silver Mini we had on display. It look a little (Plain Wrap) from the top, since the turbo is under the car. But it's anything but plain wrap after 4000 RPM

My mini is bigger than yours ...

I've included a few pictures below.

When we have the car back up on the lift I'll take some photos from the underside so you can see the headers and turbo.

I think I'm really impressed with that! What a hoot.

How long do you reckon the engine will last?

Here is a few pictures I took awhile back of the turbo system mounted on an engine stand...this gives a lot better of a look at how it is all hooked up verse the pictures on the car since this is out in the open.

How much did that cost, or will cost, if you don't mind me asking? Why don't you have all four headers going into the turbo? I seem you only have 3, unless you have a dampener to adjust the PSI in it. Well back on the cost, where can one have this done and the price?

All 4 do go to the turbo...I think what you are seeing is the dump thru the wastegate...

looks like you gained some room behind the radiator! Very nice job.

so how did you handle these:
air intake, intake manifold and throttle body?
water pump and pump drive?
cat?
firewall heat?

Looks like the stock intake manifold and (relocated) throttle body.
Air intake looks like a modified (side-connection) BMP "airbox"
I can't make out any of the other components.

BTW, Casey, are you planning to support that manifold somehow?

supports are being worked on for that yes...no photos of them yet...i haven't got to drive it myself yet as they are still early in the stages of dialing everything in....but one of the guys that did drive it refered to it as "a raped ape" and had a huge grin on his face getting out of the car.

How Much? I'm afraid to add it up

We do these projects for several reasons! (1) I love building cars and doing this kind of stuff! Turning the key for the first time on one of these projects and having it work is an unbelievable high! When we start one of these projects, I normally don't bother setting a budget, since every time I have in the past I exceed it by over 200%. So we go with it until it's done. The actual cost of this one project is really not a fair estimate since each item was hand made, and several items were changed or scraped. A lot of time was spent thinking it out.

We will drive the car for a while, debug it, see where the limits are, and then do a cost study for making it a production kit.
The headers you see are 4 into one, with a 5th pipe leading to the wastegate which dumps the excess exhaust once the turbo reachs the desired boost level.
At this time we are not able to do installs and repairs on outside cars. My goal is to offer those services in the future.

The car is very fast! It does feel different than a Supercharged car. At present we are just running 18P.S.I. of boost. My guess is that it's one of the first cars to run that much boost, so my goal is to play it safe until we get a few miles on it. I can already tell that the stock clutch is going to be the first thing to play dead!
