Offline | OMG. Installed Alta intake today. Oh.. My.. Goodness. I installed the Alta intake that I got from OutMotoring to my stock MCS.. And I can't believe it's added so much more PEP to my car! It's like a totally different beast. If feels so much more aspirated than with the stock intake. Man.. IT'S AWESOME! If you have yet to add an intake to your car, it's totally worth the 200 bucks or whatever you would spend on it! I'm off to go explore some bckroads! It's also my first mechanical job on a car, but it was pretty straightforward to put in! |

Offline | I didn't get the intake tube, as I have heard that it only really helps if you have a big bore throttle body. If I do more extreme modifications, I'd probably look into it. ![]() |

Offline | He's not saying it's bad. What he's inferring is that there's is a group here that says CAI kits do nothing for a supercharged car. What he's not saying is that there is no improvement over the OEM induction system. The first comment is a matter of degrees. If the CAI makes no difference then why does the MCS run better in cold weather? The degrees come in where "how much" cooler the kit makes the air. If it's only 5º (purely random figure) then you won't really get a measureable difference. This is just my uneducated opinion Second comment. There is definitely an improvement over the OEM system. I had the BMP and now the Alta. I can assure you there is an improvement. I'll let others argue how much. My 2¢ |

My 2¢[/quote] obehave , can you compare BMP and Alta? I have BMP on my JCW Cooper S now, but I am planning to put Alta CAI along with Alta top mount intercooler. I am afraid I can't dsitinquish it's the intake or the intercooler work after modification. |

Offline | Well that statement has just made my 2 week wait for the induction kit that little bit longer. I have ordered the Red pipe to go with my soon arriving red Samco hoses ![]() Cooper S : Dark silver, white roof |

Offline | This thread if you haven't read it may explain why going to the Alta may help in some situations. I have a non pullied (for now) car. For performance there wasn't much difference. My Alta came with the large diameter TB hose and I think this may flow too much for my car. I've babbled about it before. If I restrict the surface area of the filter the car is a little snappier but probably starves in the high RPM range. If you live above 3500 RPM's you'll be very happy. I actually ran the BMP filter in the Alta kit and felt no difference so I think the TB hose makes a difference. I do like the fact that the Alta isolates the filter from under hood air. In reality it may not be much but I'll take small increments gladly. Doing both maos at once will make it hard to tell where the improvement comes from but I'm thinking the biggest boost will come from your intercooler. Like I said above the change from the BMP was minimal. If you have a pulley you'll be doing good. |

My Alta came with the large diameter TB hose and I think this may flow too much for my car> I'd wager that a return to a stock exhaust would give you the improvement that myself and others have experienced from the Alta intake. It's not a matter of too much air in, but not enough back pressure to utilize it. Me, I'm having the pulley put on at Helix tomorrow..can't wait. The exhaust, however will stay stock. Offline | There is probably some truth to that but I'm not giving up the gains the exhaust gives me. I wish Helix was closer. 5 1/2 hours one way is too much for a day trip. That's where I want to get mine done though. Good luck and post some feedback info. |

Offline | Yeah and look out for the even smaller 17%er (or was it 19?) I saw at Ocktcooperfest. Good thing about Helix's is that the size is relatively easily swapped. ![]() NY/NE Mod |
