JCW MCS - True BHP

Hi,

Somebody posted this in March...

"The Cooper S Works delivers up to 216bhp at 0 degrees C apparently. 200bhp is guaranteed at +20C ambient temperature, with 187bhp at +40C. I wonder whether all these BHP tests are conducted under similar ambient temperatures - a few degrees here or there can make a hell of a difference. Either way I'm sure all the conversions will feel similarly quick."

Can anybody provide substantial comment on this ?

Certainly, I know ambient temperature can affect aircraft (even 10/20°C can have a huge difference), so I'd presume it can have an impact on cars.

I haven't heard of anyone removing their JCW MCS engine and running it on an engine dyno. I have heard of one JCW MCS on a chassis dyno in the UK, and it returned 170 whp, IIRC.

BTW, even though I would never buy it, the JCW kit seems to be priced right for the marketplace. They don't have any problem finding buyers to cough up ~$5500-$6000 installed for them. Bravo, Mr. Cooper!

whp = Wheel Horse Power (i.e. the power at the wheels not at the crank)

IIRC - If I Recall Correctly

edit: and he didn't recall correctly it was 172....

Mr Cooper only wanted to sell the Kits in the UK, it was BMW who suggested global. Marketing master stroke on BMW's behalf.

They've managed to turn a £14.5K car into a £20K one.
