| Comes and Goes | winter is here and i have no traction control! i have no traction control, i know that the traction control is just the on board computer using the ABS and cutting power to wheels. so i want traction control, does anyone know how much it wil cost me? i have ABS obviously, i think i have the on board computer but i might have to dish out £400 for that. any one know what else i will need from the dealer? and how much they will charge me? |

Offline | Even better than traction control is a set of winter tires. Unless of course you already have the tires, in which case of course the traction control is quite nice. |

![]() You can put lipstick on.. | BoxterCharlie its a great idea, but in the UK Winter tyres don't really exist(which is starnge because just about everey other Nortern Europen country does have them , I'd love a set of Blizzaks on 15", but we cannot get them. Any one looking for specialist tyres in the UK then Colway do a range of Winter rubber that is affordable, http://www.c-tyres.co.uk/. I guess Scotland might have winter tyres avialable?? |

Offline | You might want to check with your dealer to see what it'll take to retro-fit DSC to your MINI. It's listed as a $500(US) option here if you get it when you order. I'm sure the dealer labor to put it in after the fact would take that figure up quite a bit. As suggested, get yourself a good set of winter tire if you can find some and just drive sanely. You shouldn't have a problem. -- '03 S B/W |

Offline | Man, there are sensors everywhere and I don't know whether it is a seperate control module or a different ABS module. I would guess it would cost you a fortune in parts and especially labor which might be better off spent on the best set of winter tires for many years to come. ![]() |

Offline | I'm confused about Traction Control and DSC on the Mini Cooper (not the S). I ordered my 2006 Mini Cooper with DSC and I was under the impression that the Mini Cooper did not have Traction Control to prevent the wheels from spinning during acceleration on a slippery surface. I thought that only the Mini Cooper S had Traction Control. Am I interpreting the posts above correctly in concluding that Traction Control is naturally included in DSC on the Mini Cooper? ![]() |

Offline | Yes. If you have DSC in your Cooper, you have all the functions of "traction control" and then some. Go try it. Find a wet parking lot or some pavement with loose sand on it, spin the wheels and see what happens. |

Offline | Don't worry you don't really need it. If you use to much power one or both front wheels will spin uselessly but it won't snap the tail round like a RWD car. Just concentrate that little bit harder on using the throttle smoothly when conditions are bad and the MINI's naturally good handling will do the rest. Winter tyres aren't common because the UK hasn't had a bad winter for nearly two decades. ![]() Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs |

Offline | You can get ASC+T (traction control) by getting the MTH engine map upgrade (150 euros I think) You cannot retrofit DSC (Stability control) on a car that didn't come with it, you need extra sensors. The difference between ASC and DSC are listed under the Mini 2 faq. You do not really NEED traction control, I've driven 5 years in Calgary (snow on the ground 5 months a year) without traction control, so does most people out there, just don't step on the throttle like a mad man, you'll do fine. Practice on an empty parking lot or something so you're used to it. Search for "snow" on the forums, lots of threads about snow driving. |
