United-States Version 3.6 ECU upgrade impressions

I recently had the MCS s/w upgraded to 3.6. My impression:

No more stumble at initial start-up

DSC is less intrusive. It cuts the power less and for shorter duration. I used to be unhappy about having ordered it, but now I'm not.

Does anyone else have an opinion of the change? It would be interesting to know what all the differences are. The tech said my mileage would improve. Its too early to tell but I would be curious to know if those dynoing and checking a/f ratios notice any significant changes.

I got my "fix" on 12/27 and have driven it some. I notice that there is no hesitation as there once was. I do not feel the "yo-yo" stuff either. I am much more confident when pulling out into traffic. Much more fun (how can that be?) driving!! I think it is easier to pull revs and get to speed. I do not want a ticket!

I had mine upgraded to 3.6 (former version unknown) December 19th. I have driven over 200 miles since. I can now take off from a cold standing start (and other times) without a stumble; a feat impossible to the MCS and I since new. Who said this was a clutch problem? No more bog accelerating in 1st. The engine in general drives more smoothly.

Added Later: The dreaded yo-yo was never much of a problem before. I knew what it was and felt it sometimes, but it didn't bother me. I will say that it is more noticeable now, even though it is in the same 2nd and occasionally 3rd gear range. It still is not a problem, just noticeable. To those that suffer from this lightly or dramatically, this may not be your cure.

Though somewhat off topic, I must compliment Brian Harris Mini (Baton Rouge, La) for an excellent service stop. They did what was needed to fix my problems, provided a loaner, and even gave me a candy bar!

This is all very exciting because these behaviors have been so persistent, across all the models. I think the BMW Version number is not 3.6, but it's called "CD#36.0" (that may already be 36.1).

Have you calculated any mileage comparisons yet? One adjustment I'm told we may see is a drop in average mileage from TRITEC motor now in the cars.

Once your car is in the Dealer's garage, it shouldn't take more than 30 mins to reprogram.

does anyone know if this would be upgraded as part of the standard service, and if not, can I just ring up and request a booking for the ECU unit to be upgraded. Will they even know what I'm talking about!?

My car should be built in the next couple of weeks for delivery in March, will it come with the latest version of the code or will the dealer install during the PDI?

Thanks

I just asked for it to be installed. The Tech at Crevier said they were supposed to put down a complaint of some sort to justify the install - like "stumble" problem. I think everyone should have it done as it cured the very irritating stumble, and diminished DSC intrusion.

Yes its covered as long as you tell them your having a STUMBLE. The Service advisor may not know exactly what your talking about, but the Techs do.

Generally in first gear, the mini 'stumbles' when pulling away (!) :-) , as if there's a bit of a lack of power at the lower revs and when releasing the clutch.

They have a waiting list going.

Basicly, when your in 1st gear and your traction control is ON, you cant really step on the gas pedal very hard because the car will seem to loose power and nose dive for like 1 second ( unless you reved up very very hi ). You'll also need this upgrade if you notice that its difficult to get the car out from a stand-still with normal cluth action.
ie., you find yourself correcting the clutch in 1st gear ALOT more than would seem normal just to get a smooth launch.
