Anybody Put in a Second Fuel Pump?

Some may remember that in an earlier thread I related a fuel starvation problem I was having. Promise to update that thread when they finish fixing it. Now that I have the car back they are going to start working on it. A very good Mini service manager and tech think it is a crimp in the line, but I will let you know.

In the meantime, since the whole fuel system, tank and all are going to be removed, the idea of a second fuel pump has been raised. The owner of the shop in Monterey that did my engine work, owns a MCS and told me that some of his friends that race them are putting second fuel pumps in the right-hand fuel tank saddle. Well, I haven't heard of anybody that has done it, but I stashed the idea in the back of my head.

When I finally found the above mentioned Mini people to work on my car, the idea came up again. The service rep, used to race Austin Healeys and she said that she put a second pump in her car to make sure she was always drawing no matter what position she had the car, or how the gas was sloshing around.

Since insurance is covering the removal of the whole fuel system, the idea of a second pump is attractive. Only thing is, I haven't heard of anyone doing this to their Mini. Let me know if you have, and if so, how did you set it up and did you use a second stock pump. If nobody has done this, tell me what you think of the idea. It's pretty much a free install, but that's not necessarily a good deal if it's a bad idea.

Thanks, Norm

Technically that shoudn't be a problem Norm. One concern would be that the fuel shutoff safety works for your second pump as well.
I'm assuming the balance pump would have to remain? Don't know.
You'd also need to split the return lines to both tanks maybe?
Nothing insumountable I'm sure.
